    I'm justified in avoiding the 840's and the 840 EVO's I think.....

Although the 840 Series is clearly in worse shape than the competition, these results need to be put into context. 500TB works out to 140GB of writes per day for 10 years. That's an insane amount even for power users, and it far exceeds the endurance specifications of our candidates. The HyperX 3K, which has the most generous endurance rating of the bunch, is guaranteed for 192TB of writes.
Three-bit TLC NAND 100% has its issues with endurance, but that's pretty much only in the Enterprise area. 140GB of writes a day for 10 years straight is completely absurd for ANY consumer, even people who do large amounts of recording, which you would be recording to a magnetic HDD anyway.

I try not to knock Samsung's SSDs, but I just believe that its competitors deserve more attention sometimes.

I was shocked at the graph at first until I read the data amounts before the failures as well. At 140GB of data for 10 years is insane, I will never reach 10% of that in the life of my rig and yes I have the 240GB evo 840

The money I saved on the EVO line now will pay for itself in a few years when I buy a larger SSD for a lower price at that time compared to now.
