I thought this was particularly well done:

Ive been a WD fan for over 10 years. They have never steered me wrong in quality or customer service the one time I had a dead drive on my hands.

    Nice article.

Had a few raptors that went bad and a pretty high percentage but other than that, WD have been solid for me.

However, had a friend buy one of their enclosures new. Had an issue, cracked it open and it had a refurb'd drive in it. Pretty damn cheap imo.

I only use western digital drives now. Their backing of their warranty is tops

My last 2 non-working hard drives were Seagate. One of which I sent back under warranty, the other I tossed as it was pretty old. The one under warranty died again about a year later, so I tossed it.

I must say, the Seagate warranty process went over just fine though.

I always thought it was WD vs Seagate (at least at a consumer level). I never thought Hitachi came into the mix (and looks to be top dog). I just thought they made really shitty TVs and figured that to be the same for their HDDs.

Mine were out of the box pos's. One was a 1tb the other was a 3tb. After returning the second one i went to seagate. I've never had a problem with their drives personally. All 3 drives in my system are seagate 2 of which are at least 4 years old.

I'm pretty sure they bought, quite some time ago, IBM's drive business.

I've had my own experiences with WD, Seagate, Hitachi, IBM, and Toshiba drives. But (for some models) these guys have a sample in the tens of thousands. That's better than any individual experience I may have had.

Of the drives I have owned myself, only a 20GB IBM Deathstar went bad. I have replaced at least 20 of every brand for customers though. None are better than others IMHO but the Fujitsu notebook drives in the early 2000s were definitely worse than average as were the aforementioned IBM Deskstars.
