EPIC has drastically changed their licensing model for the Unreal Engine which is awesome!
Basically it's $19 a month to fully license the engine WITH access to the source code and full documentation. This is a glorious landmark for game devs! They will take a 5% royalty on profits, but that's pretty nominal if you ask me for what you are getting with this new pricing scheme.

I for one am thrilled by this announcement, this really will open the doors for small and large developers alike to start pushing out some killer games in the coming years.Last edited by salty99; 03-19-14 at 06:06 PM.

Re: EPIC Releases Unreal Engine For $19/mo!!!
You know what is the best part about this thing for me? According to their FAQ you can buy a license for a month, download the source code, and use that to learn for your own personal projects! This is great since while you can learn from a ton of other resources like gamedev, OGRE, doom3 source, msdn, etc they aren't always up-to-date or completely clear on the usage of things.
Edit: Also note they said upon signing up that things are just getting started, a lot of things haven't been testing and documentation is sparse for some things. They suggest coming back in 6 months if you are looking for something more polished.Last edited by gehn; 03-20-14 at 11:47 AM.
