Octo-core Intel chips incoming this Autumn, priced at $999 | PC Gamer
Lots of big game changing tech becoming available to consumers later this year. Granted a new CPU, Mobo, RAM upgrade with all of these will cost an arm and a leg, it's great to see the start of another new generation of hardware with so many game changers. DDR4 has been on the horizon for a while now, but that doesn't make the anticipation any less exciting.
The introduction of the X99 chipset which will be the first available to support DDR4 RAM will play a large role in whether early upgraders will go with Haswell-E or Devil's Canyon hardware. I suppose it will be the coming benchmarks which will solidify the purchase for a lot of people, but in any case I'm sure both CPUs will have significant increases over some of the current haswell (non-haswell refesh) chips. Devil's Canyon supposedly fixes a lot of the clock-speed and head concerns current Haswell chips exhibit. I'm excited to see the impact these new parts have on the market.

Yes, I will likely upgrade to a new platform next summer when I do my next build.

Not sure when I'll upgrade my 3930k... it's proven itself to be a lot longer lasting than any other cpu I've ever had and doesn't really show any signs of weakness yet. Right now the only upgrade I have in the pipeline is GPU and likely a replacement for my H100 cooler.

I think my 4770K is going to hold me over for a very long time. With water cooling, and no game really pushing its limits I am set for the foreseeable future.

ASRock X79 Extreme4. It is the same thing as the Extreme 6, but it only has 4 RAM slots compared to the 8 on the Extreme6. I chose the 4 slots because I simply wasn't going to fill all 8, and I didn't want to have open slots on the board.

The ASRock BIOS is pretty nifty, the board is great quality, and it looks pretty slick. I have been overclocking my 3930k to 4.4GHz or higher for the past 2 years, and I have never had any problems with the CPU or board.

I went with the Asus Rampage IV Extreme. I've had the last 2 iterations of that board and I love it.
