    VR accessories (Oculus/Omni/Sixsense)

I hate working out, and I a bit too body concious to go to the gym most of the time. Running absolutely bores me. Now if I could be doing something fun while running (I tried watching TV on a treadmill and the vibration sort of killed the enjoyment). But I figured if I could run around in a game, maybe shoot people in the face while I was doing it, I'd run more often and that would be good.

The Oculus rift DK2 is starting to ship now but as the above suggests I am looking into the Virtuix Omni, which seems to be the only VR treadmill that is taking pre-orders. The next batch of Oculus orders shipping seems to coincide with the Omni projected shipping dates (they are both slipping into Q4). The Omni has a competitor now, the Cyberith Virtualizer which seems to have built-in/better crouch detection but the running surface is flat, which makes your gait all weird. You also can't currently buy the Cyberith either. The Omni does require you to wear the special shoes that come with the unit.

Even if you add in the cost of the Rift and a motion controller this setup is going to cost less than a consumer "VR" treadmill (which go for > $2000). The base price for the Omni is $500, a Rift is $350 and a 3-tracker SixSense STEM (also shipping around Q3/Q4) is running just under $400 (if you don't have a Kinect already). A Delta-six gun seems pretty useless since I don't think it could ever compete with mouse and keyboard and a more generic controller like the STEM would be more useful in other games. This investment is probably comparable to high-end paintball or airsoft gear, but VR is boundless...

Seems like a lot of work and $ just for getting a jog.

Drop the excuses and just do it. (Buy the VR junk, and go for a run)

They had the Omni at Quakecon last year. I didn't care for it at all. They had a big hamster ball at PAX that was kind of interesting, but overall just not practical.
