What speed are you connecting at? If you are connecting at 2.4 Ghz then switch to 5 GHz if you are connecting at 5 Ghz then switch to 2.4.
edit:
Just saw you mention you are a computer noob.
This shows you how to check what you are connected on.
To change the band you are connecting on:
1. type ncpa.cpl from the windows search bar(this should bring up your network connections)
2. Right click your wireless adapter and go to properties
3. Click the configure button right under the adapter name
4. Select the 'Advanced' tab
5. There should be be an option to select either 'Band Preference' or 'Disabel Band'
6. If you are connected at 802.11n then set preference for 802.11g/b or disable 802.11n
7. If you are connected at 802.11g or b then set preference for 802.11n or disable 802.11b/g
Also,
Verify that your power settings are correct.
1. Control Panel
2. Power Options
3. Change Plan Settings
4. Change Advanced Power Settings
5. Find Wireless Adapter Settings and open it up. Make sure that it is set to Maximum Performance.Last edited by iLLusioN; 08-03-14 at 07:36 PM.

I wonder if they have a session timer, ie it resets itself every 30 minutes to keep people from streaming over the wireless? At my college every dorm room has a wired Ethernet connection and res life is responsible for them working. If yours isn't call your res life help desk.

Re: Wireless adapter disconnects exactly every 30 minutes.
It is actualy the problem with the hardware of this wireless adapter.
I have the same thing laying in my desk and i am having the same problem. Random disconects and poor signal quality and same as you i have to unplug it ocassionaly to get it to work again.
I also have the this one http://nl.tp-link.com/resources/imag...-WN822N-02.jpg and this one http://media.castle.nl/img/product/c...2-11b--8-2.jpg
and i can not recomend a TP link brand to anyone.
Random disconects and poor signal quality,i ditched all of them and pulled out the cable again to maintain steady internet conection.
