Re: Apple Pay Live Today
All part of the race. Apple knows that as soon as people adopt something new, they are done for a while. They needed to launch before a change was made. I think the Android version (done by a different company) is supposed to come out later this year, or early next year. That's when I think things will get interesting. Different banks and different retailers backing different pay systems. If this really takes off, it could very well be a matter of not if you have a pay system for your phone, but how many, for which cards, at which retailers.

Re: Apple Pay Live Today
Wow, this is gonna seem crazy but now I think I met you once before.
I was behind you in the express-lane at the supermarket. You had 3 items.
... and 4 coupons, one of which was expired but you argued with the girl about what "3 business days" really means before graciously letting her off the hook for the extra 25-cents.
You wanted to pay with a check, but you hadn't actually decided that until after she said that your total was $6.32.
Me and the 3 other people behind me watched you ask her who to make the check to, and then write that, and then ask her the date, and then write that, and then think for a minute about what to write in the "memo" field, and then skip that because you couldn't think of anything.
Then me and the 5 other people behind me watched you write $26.32 and then spell out twenty six dollars and thirty two one hundreths of one dollar because you just then decided you wanted $20 in cash.
Then me and the 6 other people behind me started to get a little impatient when she said she couldn't give you cash back on a check, but she could do it on a debit card.
Me and the 6 people behind me watched the 7th not join our line but (wisely) get in the next line behind the mother with 2 full carts and 3 screaming kids while you wrote VOID on your check before putting it away and getting out your wallet. You eventually found your debit card between your AAA card and your AARP card ("it shouldn't be there, I usually keep these things alphabetized", you said) and swiped it the wrong way twice before getting The Beep Of Success.
Me and the now 4 other people left behind me were pretty seriously concerned that there'd be some sort of argument about whether signing the LCD screen meant you didn't need to key in your PIN too, but instead you told her she was cute as a button and asked if she played field hockey like your granddaughter.
She said, "No, but I study osteo-therapy and if you don't stop sitting on that thick-ass wallet you're going to need a hip replacement inside 5 years."
Secure transfer of funds by thinking of a number and winking at the waitress? How is that not the Holy Grail?

Re: Apple Pay Live Today
Many.....MANY have had issues. From the Target breach to pay at the pump card readers, the magnetic stripe's days are about done. Things will be changing very soon. To what is the beig question.
I don't want anyone to have my info, but Visa knows more about me than my Mother does. So does Wells Fargo. They know where and when I buy gas, and what I had for lunch. If the info has to pass through Apple's hands, or any other third party, to keep it out of Russia (along with my former debit card), so be it. All I want is security and the convienience I already have with a card. My bank is on board with the Apple Pay, and since they were the ones who discovered the theft of my info and didn't hold me responsible for a dime of the damage done, I trust them. Why not if they are backing the transactions the same as they would with a magnetic card?

Re: Apple Pay Live Today
That's a quite a long story, but I haven't written a check in quite a while. The last time I wrote a check, all went smoothly. So, no...you weren't behind me. Don't you feel a bit jilted when you write out these long quips and they're not true, funny, or relevant?
The point is, no system is perfect. These people who are raving about this now, are same people who are going to be calling for Apple's public execution, if and when it ever crashes.

Re: Apple Pay Live Today
I write for fun, and for practice. 'Jilted' is only in the mix when me getting laid is on the line - and I don't mean to hurt your feelings but you're not really part of that equation. This is more of a "Whatever bores you makes me stronger" thing.
That's a really good point. After the Hindenburg the world gave up on improved trans-Atlantic travel, and we've been using steam ships ever since.
I have no idea if Apple's solved this puzzle. I think they're showing more promise than any other attempt so far.
Maybe we should start a new thread with a poll: "Which gasbag is more likely to go up in flames: AetheLove or Guyver?"
Cheers,
AetheLove

Re: Apple Pay Live Today
Nothing wrong with magnetic stripe. Problem is the lack of verification of identity. In Europe, you need the card number and need to know the pin same as a debit card.
Change the pin on a regular basis and there's your security. I really don't understand why the US is so behind on this simple thing.
