My Logitech G35s took a tumble off my desk and one of the ears broke off so I got a pair of Astro a40s with some christmas giftcards.
The mic sounds like butt. I've tried everything I can think of. Does anyone else use this headset? Does your mic sound like butt? Am I missing something or does this headset just have a really crappy mic? I thought Astro was known for killer headsets?
I got the edition without the mix-amp because I have an HT Omega eClaro that I'm running it through. The audio sounds pretty decent, but the mic just sounds awful no matter what I do.

You can still use the amp with the sound card. It's what I'm doing with Claro Halo XT and A50s. The mic sounds decent for my headset, albeit that's a different model from the same company. I wouldn't use it for professional recordings though. It's been more than adequate for VOIP.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Also, if you don't mind spending a bit more, I've never had a more comfortable headset than the A50s. Whether I'm gaming/coding, I'm always listening to something so I have them on A LOT. No pain on my ears/head from extended use. The battery lasts a while and charges via USB. The set up instructions listed for PC are a bit lacking, but I can tell you what to do. Knuckle also uses them.

I have been using my Blue Yeti Pro and my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro stereo headset lately. I miss out on the surround sound, but the sound quality I get running with my ASUS Xonar Essence STX is REALLY hard to beat.
I might pick up a set of Astros some day as I only hear great things about them.
