Thread: Ping Problem - Trace Decode Help

In our BF4 server my ping spikes upwards of 600-700ms when I'm on our server doing something like flying. But it stays above 200ms when I'm on foot long enough for me to be kicked about every 5 min when the server is full.

Below is the trace route I did.

My questions are:
-Is my signal actually being bounced to Europe or is the server location wrong? (wouldnt be surprised with TWC/Brighthouse)
-Hop 2 timed out on both my PC and phone. Could that be part of my problem (other than the Europe thing)?
-Why the fuck am I being bounced 3 times in Orlando (where I live) to Tampa to Orlando to Miami...
-Is our server now in CA or am I getting a redirect bounce from our host?

I did the trace on both my PC and my cell and got the exact same 13 hops...

Any ideas?

I get some funky results with a tracert to the server from my end, too. So, I dunno about that. I think the server is supposed to be in Chicago though?

See if it puts up any red flags. You'll need Java. You can still use this with Chrome, but it's less of a hassle to just use Firefox for Java stuff now. If you go to the advanced settings for your Java install and scroll to the bottom, you can also check a box to turn off all 3rd party offers...

Also, what DNS are you using? Default? Google?

I'll play with that tool when I get a chance.

As for DNS I'm just using the default, I haven't messed with them.

The first NFO hit I get says its in Chicago but I get a second one that seems to think it's in CA.

The BF4 server is in Chicago. Fo sho.

I have no idea why they are routing your packets through Europe. Seems a little out of the way.

They aren't. At least I don't think they are. Both of the Europe locations for him are in Switzerland with nothing in between them and the US locations. The California location also doesn't make sense.

Well 600-700ms definitely feels like I'm being bounced to Switzerland and back...
