As a warning to those who will get called in to upgrade a friend or relatives windows 7 machine to windows 10.. you all may have heard that you need a microsoft account to obtain even the free apps from the app store.. no big deal right? Well, when I found out that it automatically changes your windows login password to whatever your new password is for the freshly created microsoft store account.. without actually saying anywhere that I noticed it was doing this... and the email account the other person swore they had up to date passwords on having been recently changed, had last had the password recorded on paper in march... and was changed later then that.... well, I'm sure you all see where this is going as I bang my forehead into the desk before I go see if there's any of the chivas left

Well, you can change the password on your freshly made Microsoft account to whatever your windows login was, but if you have a Microsoft account is supersedes the old windows login so that's what I ended up doing for them is making the Microsoft account the same as the old windows login.. they won't know the difference :P

I upgraded my main last night to win10 and it's been nothing but trouble
First my network adapter couldn't recognize my router so I had to dl the new win10 lan driver and move it over via flash drive, then I had display monitor issues, and now I'm getting huge performance issues in game after installing the newest win10 nvidia driver. Like I got a 40fps drop in csgo.
I'll need to do some more junk this weekend to get it up to snuff - I anticipated as much though, always issues that need to be fixed

That was one of my concerns actually, will Microsoft issue me a Windows 10 activation or will my Windows 7 key only apply to the free upgrade from 7?
I always do clean OS installs and would love to do the same with win10 if possible. Basically, if I do a clean install, will I need to purchase a new activation key?

Negative, Ghost Rider.
As Rush said, do the upgrade, then go to the activation screen in the settings menu and make sure your key is activated/registered/whatever. Then get back in the Settings Menu > Update and Security > Reset PC. Have it "reset", and choose the option to kill all of your files. Windows 10 will then begin to do a clean install of itself. Once you do that, though, you can't go back to Windows 7 with that key.Phyrelight liked this post
