Re: HP laptop problem - memory - module error not functional
when you upgrade windows 7 to 10..that key becomes your windows 10 upgrade and is bound to the hardware on which the upgrade took place. If you bought the family bundle of windows 7 for example and the key is usable 3 times you can use it to upgrade 3 systems from 7 to 10...bindings the key to those 3 systems. If you bought windows 7 OEM (if you bought a pre-made system with the OS ipreinstalled, its OEM) however its a single use key and once that key is upgraded to windows 10 it can't be reused to install windows 7 and upgrade another system to 10.
Rumble is saying that if you want to do a fresh install of windows 10 you must first do the upgrade path binding that upgrade to the hardware....follow his steps and windows 10 will fresh install wiping all old data and programs. To use the "upgrade" you must first perform the upgrade from windows 7 or 8 to 10 first and activate it to be allowed to do a fresh install. Basically you can't use your windows 7 serial and fresh install 10 on a new system.
Think of it as Microsoft removing a windows 7 or 8 Serial key off the market for every free windows 10 upgrade offered.Last edited by Phyrelight; 11-16-15 at 11:12 AM.

Re: HP laptop problem - memory - module error not functional
I understand now. Basically I'm SOL for what I want to do.
My Mother's laptop has a non-pro version OS and I was looking for a way to get a pro version on there. The desktop I'm on used to have Windows 7 Home Premium and I did the upgrade to 8 and when I did that it gave me 8 Pro and from there I went to 10 Pro. So yea, my thinking was I would install 7 Home Premium and then upgrade to 8 or 10 Pro.
Now, the weird thing about it is, if you upgrade from 7 Home premium to 8 and then to 10, you will have 10 Pro, BUT, if you upgrade straight from 7 Home Premium to 10, then you get 10 Home. Oh well, I guess I'll stick with the home version I got.
