    PC Before and After

I found an old harddrive with some pics from around 2007, and the state of my battle-station back then. Thought I'd do a little before and after comparisson. I had older PCs from before that which were hand-me-downs from anytime my brother would upgrade, but this was the first one I fully built myself.

    BEFORE:

    CURRENT:

My my, how things have changed. Any of y'all have some photos of your battlestations from back in the day?

Mine just got a bit of an over haul.

Up to 32gigs of crucial ballistix tactical ram
And, I spent way to long building a liquid cooling system from old and new parts

Nice, that's the same ram I've got, though I only have 16GB (2x8). I've recently started doing a lot of remote sessions and server-ish tasks so I'm thinking of populating my other 2 slots with another 16GB.

That's a nice loop too. I've just got an all in one corsair h100i but I've been wanting for a while to do a real loop with acrylic.

My mouse from that era: Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical:

New feature for me: Thumb Button. It also had some new rubbery grip-enhancing stuff applied to the mouse above the thumb button. It was really comfortable to use.

    Advantage: Two sensors, Zero skipping!

(Disadvantage: 5 tiny teflon glides. They worked great until they started to detach):

    Sitting with it's cousins, back-in-the-day:

I used it for years. Great mouse. I had a friend who loved it, but they had stopped making them at that point. I gave it to him and bought a new mouse (G5, and later an MX518).

I visited him a couple years ago, and that damned mouse still works great. The only issue is that the grippy compound is now so tacky that it almost feels gooey. I was like "Gross! I'm holding a decade of thumb sweat!", but no - he cleans it regularly. Whatever that stuff is, it has only gotten more tacky with time (where it hasn't worn away).

He swabs it with a cotton pad doused with alcohol (maybe the alcohol is what has affected the grippy stuff), hoping that it'll last forever.

    So far, so good.

    Re: PC Before and After

There was a bit of a sale on them. I had 8 gigs before on 4 sticks.
This is actually the pump from a very old build when I first got this case. I bought a PC from Cyber power because it was my first time with vista and water cooling. I wanted someone else to set it all up. The only issue was the system had to be filled via the radiator. Needless to say that was a pain in the ass. I few upgrades later, the stock cooler for my AMD 8150 does keep the CPU cool enough. Bought a Zalman, didn't work because it was designed for a 90w and I have a 125w CPU. Bought a 125w rated Zalman, didn't work......
Fuck it, found the pump from the old build, ordered all the parts individually and built it my self. They reservoir is the key to a lot less head aches. Keeps the bubbles out of the system, wicked easy to fill. The only pain was building a fixture to hold it. Which was just a trip to the Depot for a bracket, and few extra holes, nuts and bolts later, and voilą....

    Re: PC Before and After

My first home built PC is getting on 6 years old at this point. Still have the same everything except one replacement gpu and a new mouse. Starting to get dated, I should do a budget build soon if I can find enough cash.
