    Vid card question

I bought this ASUS Radeon R9 380 STRIX-R9380-DC2OC-2GD5-GAMING 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Newegg.com to replace my 280 the question is can I crossfire the two and if so would there be any advantage to do so?

The 280 is a Pitcairn chip. The 380 is a Tonga chip. If they were the same chip ie 280 and 280x you could crossfire. With different chips you can't until dx12 split frame rendering.

You can however dedicate one of them to physX. You likely wouldn't really see a performance boost and it'd be a total waste of space and power, but you still are able to all the same.

If you live in a cold region you can help heat your space up while mining cryptocurrency.

I actually think AMD still allows you to crossfire two different GPUs. Your faster GPU would just run at the same speed as the slower one. It may help you in SOME games, but others, you are probably better off using the single 380.
