    Refresh rate issue

Just wondering if anyone had the same issue as I have, and if/how they fixed it.

Few weeks ago after installing a windows 10 update my games would sometime defy my nvidia panel settings and go above my monitor's refresh rate. Oddly enough leaving and joining back would often solve the issue, except tonight it ain't working.

Having a G-sync monitor, to cap your refresh rate you have to set :

    Monitor technology : G-sync
    Vertical sync : On

For whatever reason my monitor doesn't seem to care since that update. Note that my GPU drivers are up to date.

If anyone's got any possible lead, I'm all ears. Searching on google didn't seem to reveal anyone who had a similar experience, but maybe someone here has.

    Re: Refresh rate issue

EDIT: after rereading your post, your issue sounds a little different then mine and I might have been too hasty in assuming I knew what issue you were describing. My apologies, hopefully these are still helpful, the issue I had was a bit different

I struggled for weeks with this same issue and discovered the following items fixed it for me (i to have a gsync monitor and Windows 10), here's what you do:

    1) go into your installed Windows apps and open the xbox live app (i know, I know, why is this shit even a thing?) - even if it's not visible, it is still installed by default on Windows 10. Go into the app settings and disable the tabs that are set to enabled, one of them sets an OS-wide fps cap for games and puts a bunch of bogus recording services in the background.

    2) run services.msc and go down to your nvidia services. Disable nvidia streamer service and nvidia network streamer service - both of these caused servere stuttering issues for my 2 980s in SLI at high framerates. You have to go into the service properties and set them specifically to 'disabled' otherwise they'll restart themselves automatically.

Note: disabling those services will render your shadowplay useless if you are into recording gameplay unless you reenable them, but I personally choose high framerates and stable gameplay rather than recording.

Hope these help. They fixed everything for me. One thing to note, in certain games, having vsync and gsync in the nvidia control panel gives the highest framerates but in other games, turning vsync off gsync on gives best stable high framerates - so I do a custom profile for each game in the nvidia control panel

    Re: Refresh rate issue

Also, lately my gsync software forgets its settings and turns itself off and the gsync option in the nvidia control panel disappears. My best fix has been to disable and reenable sli and that usually fixes it. Lots of strange issues lately for me, though I do have a somewhat strange setup

    Re: Refresh rate issue

Think disabling all that Xbox live crap did it. I'm not that hot that the idea of disabling shadowplay functionalities, even tho I don't use 'em that much, I still like having the option. Plus I never had stuttering issues with my current setup.

Don't know if it will last (as I said, the refresh rate cap being ignored was an on and off thing for a few weeks), but the fact that it didn't happen now when I've had it happening all night is a good sign.

Thanks a bunch, Salty. It's really appreciated.

    Re: Refresh rate issue

Turned out to be a false positive. Still having the same issue, even with Nvidia steaming services disabled. I'll be running with g-sync disabled for now, since it doesn't matter as long as I stay above 120fps. Hopefully that's something that will be addressed in upcoming updates or drivers.

    Re: Refresh rate issue

I recommend doing a complete removal and cleaning of all graphics drivers and installing from windows 10 drivers fresh. If needed windows 10 has a built in fresh install option.
