For me, it was when the research was beginning. I was in his office getting exposed to quantum mechanics, and I saw him editing the various files that we used to control the simulations. He never had to leave putty (which was connected to LONI) except to get files from the simpler program on our Windows machines used to make a good "first guess", and it was all so blindingly fast. I had to pick up my jaw and get back to studying.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Re: Windows 10 Bash
People still use Flash?
If you use Pico, consider Nano instead.
[on some systems Nano is installed, Pico is not, and invoking 'pico' actually starts up nano. so you might already be using it.]
Nano has a few enhancements that most people would want in an editor.
For quick editing of simple files, Nano (and Pico) are fine. I can't imagine anyone using them for anything other than lightweight jobs.
I too have seen magic done with VIM. I used to do magic with emacs.
That holy war is one only the greybeards fight now (and then only for laughs). Especially in the case of someone who is most comfortable in Windows, I can't imagine them wanting other than a modern editor.
I like Sublime Text. I've used others. Before moving to GNU/Linux, I used BBEdit. I sometimes miss BBEdit.
Honestly, I sometimes miss emacs too. Giving up the kill ring was a hard adjustment.
It's kinda weird to see all you Windows users hot for native Ubuntu. It's also weird that this is a thing now. The whole idea of it feels very 2008. Why is this important?
... that's not snark, by the way, I'm honestly curious. I'm the last guy who would care about Windows one way or the other, but also the first guy to admit he might have missed something.

There are lots of nix features I like and have wished I could have even when Windows has been more convenient/necessary for home and work. Not having to jump through hoops to get them is nice.
