Unexpected Rebuild Time...
Got up wednesday morning and my primary box decided it was time to give up the ghost. Motherboard (Rampage IV Extreme) decided to go into a repeating bios update loop. From what I read, it's sort of a common blow-up and the only real fix is to get it RMA'd. Since it had been almost 3 years since I built that machine, I decided it was time to just bite the bullet and order parts...
With the GTX1080 that's on the way, it was ~2200 dollars for a rebuild with GPU, CPU, RAM, and Mobo.
Really splurged on the mobo. Got the Rampage V Edition 10. 700 dollar motherboard.
Intel i7 6800k Socket 2011-v3 cpu (6 core @ 3.4Ghz)
64GB corsair vengeance lpx 3200 RAM
Expensive board... but damn it's pretty.
Got the mobo, cpu and ram installed... clean win10 install, and up and running. Been installing shit over the weekend again. Had some worries early on as it wasn't stable at all. I had 5 bluescreens within about 2 hours after installing windows. But it stabilized itself after that and I haven't seen one since. Bluescreenview indicated it was probably memory related but (fingers crossed) it seems stable. I ran prime95 on it for a couple hours... Loaded up memory to about 48GB with no issues...
Now I just have to tear into it again on Tuesday when the GTX1080 comes in finally.
Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them. -- Bigdog

That is a beast of a board. Holy crap. It is just begging for some full covered blocks and a dual water loop

Looks like the going rate for the 780ti is about $200-220 on eBay, some of them slightly less if they don't come with original packaging/accessories. Could be a nice card to pair up in SLI if someone has the power to push it.

On a side note, I got to see that motherboard in person today, and holy hell does it look bad ass in person. The pictures don't do it justice in this forum, but this thing looks wicked! A friend of mine is doing a water cooled build with this motherboard/cpu combo and is waiting for his full cover block to come in.

I always feel uncomfortable buying used GPUs from ebay, I mean do you just go by their ebay rating? I don't know how long they've used it, how much they've overclocked it or whatever it's like a $300 investment that you can't save if the card is DOA or dies soon after.

The big thing I've found, is that the quality isn't necessarily the issue.. most people with 100% ratings work to keep them, but that the pricing... hell most times the cards are close to if not actually new pricing ;P it's been a decade IMO before good deals on hardware (hardware that people want anyway..) have been available on eBay on a regular basis
