    Random Reboots No BSOD

    Hi.

    I5 2500k
    Z68ma-duh-b3
    R9 290 4gb
    16gb 1600 gskill
    Corsair hx750
    Sandisk ssd
    2x WD HD

Reboots became more frequent over time. Majority of reboots happen in game. PC can idle over night no reboot. See below for error.

GPU high temp 78. CPU high temp 70.

Can run Furmark, prime95 and memtest86 no crash.

My main suspect is my psu maybe gpu. I have yet to rip the psu out of my other machine.

I've seen similar things happen on a handful of PCs over time and it could be a number of things.

A few quick things to try that might solve your problem before replacing anything:

    - reseat your RAM sticks in their slots
    - update the BIOS on your motherboard

Earlier this year my buddy had that same issue, no blue screens, only happened in-game. Upgrading the BIOS version fixed it for his machine.

I would lay money on the memory. I have never see. That problem where a single or multiple sticks of ram needed reseating or replacing.

Oh how I long for the days of compUsa when you could bring sticks of ram in and run them through a ram tester

Ill give the memory a work over.

I just stopped prime95 and tried to run furmark again. Then crash, reboot. Try furmark, crash, reboot. Happens 1 more time, i walk away.

I place my bet on gpu. GPU overheat can cause a random reboot. Memory usually causes a system error. PSU is my second guess... but equally likely if the gpu pulls too much juice it could cause a hard boot.

My guess is PSU. But hard to say, if you have an extra one, thats where I would start swapping parts at.

Question, I have an r9 290 as you do and would see issues like that until I started using msi afterburner on recommendation to set a custom fan profile... because it would overheat like a you know what as the default options wouldn't work worth a ... under load, have you tried something of that nature? (myself I just did whatever the default with afterburner and it scales with use so it sounds like a jetengine on full load, but I use headphones so don't really notice it)

    Re: Random Reboots No BSOD

The card is a Saphire Tri x r9 290. It is equiped with 3 fans. During Fumark stress test (before it started crashing), fan speed was only 50% and temps leveled out just below 80 for 20 minutes.

I feel its a heat/time thing with the psu. Fact that I ran prime95 for 45 minutes, then tried Furmark and crashed.

The gpu is a power hog up to 400 watts 100% load. My other psu is only 550 watts.

I should have tried under power the gpu when it was crashing.

Had a similar problem a few months ago. PSU was the culprit.

I'm going to toss my hat into the PSU ring as well. I had a machine that would randomly lock up after being on a while (hot). Turned out to be a power supply.
