I've always liked that theory, I've never been eaten in the dark by shadow monsters because of it.

I would be in a world of shit. And I bet everyone else here would be there too. Why? Here's a few tips.

    1. Many of you would go and raid gunshops. Were you born so stupid or did you have to work on it? Answer one simple question: what thing in common with other shops does a gunshop has? If you don't know, I'll answer: a fucking owner. Probably armed, and suffering from a serious dislike of people that are trying to get his goods for free. In fact, I thing he(she) would dislike pretty much anyone trying to get close. If, by chance, he isn't there, there is another fuck-factor (or fucktor) - gun shops are fortified. They (most) have sturdy walls, heavy, armored doors and bars. Go and try to break in, I don't think any shop owner would leave his goods unlocked, unless he's dead before shit hit's the fan. And the third - while you would be trying to raid a gunshop, what do you think OTHER PEOPLE would be doing? The answer is THE SAME THING. Now, unless the gunshop is the size of a Spanish fotress show in some previous post, I don't suppose it would have enough guns. And when a bunch of people are trying to get a hold of a supply that is too limited - such situation is bound to burst into a fight, or in this case - a firefight. So if a zombie apocalypse is happening - try to condider what I wrote above, before rushing to a gunshop.
    2. Ah, the Mall. The same as a gunshop, only if you succeed to get in and use it as a haven, it has one more, rather big, problem: it's big. How the hell would you manage to secure it? Unless you have a big bunch of friends with you, the size of a mall would become a headache. And even if you do manage so secure a mall with all of it's supplies and wares, get ready for the mother of all problems, whitch I will describe a little later.
    3. I've read in other similar threads, that many of the posters would get into a car and try to get somewhere. Well, in a case of any disaster roads would be jammed for the first few days. And if it's a zombie apocalypse - guess who would hitchhike . If you hit traffic, your car is immobilized, and you too. And if you can't move - you're zombie's dinner. Of course, you can get out and continue on foot, but in a middle of a traffic jam whitch is surrounded by zombies... I guess you won't get too far. The only car-option is an off-road capable vehicle, and that works only of you live in a rural area.

If zombie apocalypse would happen, I guess I would try the following:

    1. Wait some time, securing my home any way I can (I live in an appartament on a second level, with and armored door, so it wouldn't be a chore).
    2. Stay on foot (if zombies are fast - well... I hope they get tired quickly).
    3. Avoid mall's, hospitals, police stations, supply stores etc. - any place that a crowd of people would go for the first place.
    4. Avoid large groups of people. They may ad up to security, but become less mobile and thus increases the chance of things getting not the way you'd want to.
    5. Not try to reach my family or friends, such an attempt has a big chance of rather lethal results.

I don't know where I would go though. I guess I would try to reach my village retreat. It is about 250 km from where I live, but I've walked longer distances, besides, only about 10 people live there.

So what I want to point out that guns and supplies are not key elements of survival. It's your skills that makes the big diference. Skills of surviving (finding food in the wild, starting a fire without matches etc), that you should harness if you want so survive ANY type of apocalypse (won't work for a nuclear one).

O.K. imagine that you managed to survive the initial chaos, you've found some safehouse, you have supplies and some people with you. Now get ready for the "mother of all problems", as I described it above - human greed, a.k.a. marauders. Their greed for your goods, added to your own greed that would make you defend it... Thomas Hobbes once wrote in his "Leviathan": "A law without a sword is nothing but empty words on paper". In case of a zombie hell, the sword would perish, and the law with him. And without any enforcement, the humanity's "everyone's war against everyone" would unmask it's most brutal face. It wouldn't be the zombies to destroy mankind. The mankind would destroy itself, because most of men are greedy, selfish, ignorant, and has an IQ of a shoe (woa, that even rhymes). Romero got really close to this point in his films, but didn't quite got it.

To sum it all up, I will citate a line from "Diary of the Dead": "Survive? Who the hell would want so survive in a world like this!?"

I has guns...plenty, so no need to raid one. I may try to still head to one, to offer my services in exchange for some additional ammo. While it would be a stressful time, I may be able to bridge the tension gap as another gun owner, rather than a greedy bastard looking to take his shit.

I hate malls...now and during the zombie apocalypse...won't be heading there.

Would agree with most of that, but I'd have to go try to get friends and family, as they don't have many guns.

As for where I'd go, see this impenetrable fortress...

And as for keeping the law, note said guns. I wouldn't be handing out my guns willy nilly. Friends and family only. If you don't like my rules, do expect me to waste rounds for your benefit. To survive, I would harbor a skilled set of individuals who I'd expect wouldn't mind starting a fire for me rather than get ate by some zombie.

    *hugs guns*

You can't fully rely on other people, even if you are bound with them, for two reasons:

    1) They simply may not be there when you need them
    2) Human nature a.k.a. Human factor. Recalling pshychology, manner of men may change drastically under different conditions.

    Totally a prison.
They have fences around them, stone walls, cells you cant break into, riot gear, guns and everything, and tons of food.

In The Walking Dead books, they stay in the prison.
