US Postal service is a little cheaper most times...but if its speed and efficiency you are after, FedEx owns UPS all day.

    Purely sarcastic.

Except for the part about when computers start smoking. There's nothing like having your your PC start smoking right after you walk out the door. Luckily, I was in an office with cubicles and one of the other guys saw the flash from the spark and the smoke so he yanked the power cord. I can squarely blame that on the ceiling tile bursting and dumping water on my computer several weeks earlier. But we had other power supplies start smoking around that office. Most of the casualties were old computers that were due for retirement anyways.

    Alrighty then.

Let's not joke about what a UPS is. It is not a light bulb.

At it's core a UPS is a battery that 1) generates heat when it charges, 2) can spontaneously combust or explode if the charge current falls out of regulation, and 3) contains a significant quantity of sulfuric acid. It is somewhat like a pint-sized gas can of potential energy. And just like if someone stored gas in their house, would it catch fire? Probably not. But why take the risk if they don't really need gas in the house?

If a person cares about fire risks in their home then I would like to give them notice without being clouded by sarcasm.

That is NOT a UPS. You have a power conditioner, which is a completely different animal.

    Re: UPS Recommendation needed

I've gone through about three APC UPS over the years. Their batteries never seem to last all that long. And I did have one of them get so hot that it melted the carpet. Not really bad, but it looks like someone put a hot iron on it. If you choose to use them, I would keep it off of the carpet.

Right..and it hooks up to a goddamn UPS that i can't find a link for since i'm at WORK.

doesn't do me good commuting back home to clip a picture of my home theater setup to show EVERYTHING connected to that thing...

I KNOW it's a power conditioner...but thanks for helping others learn what it is.

10-4. This thread for UPS recommendations, not random photos of your A/V equipment.

    Lightbulb Newer (PC)Gen Newbie

After 10 years of using windows 2k (just for internet use and media storage) I switched from console gaming to PC gaming due to a sudden lifestyle change with a new job promotion. So I went laptop shopping and landed with a vista 64 bit system and the learning curve is taking a bit longer than I thought it would. Not to mention the laptop is asus, and the bios has no CPU modifying options for multicore fixes I saw in the sticky.

Problem: Game runs perfectly for 15 minutes or so and then closes. No blue screen, no nothing, just terminated.

What I tried: Checked BIOS for multicore options stated in sticky, found none.
Opened console and attempted the command stated in sticky, nothing happened...just text.

    My System: ASUS G50Vt X1
