Re: getting stop errors for BF2142 on my Vista Home Premium box.
Beta I have never really liked to use them. I do a lot of benchmarking & competitions on benchmarking. So I like to stick with the certified drivers.
I will try that MS hotfix first. I am going to read some more about this hot fix first before I use it. I downloaded Direct X SDX Aug 2007 and forced BF2142 to use DX 10. It seams to be helping so we will see.
I can not reinstall XP the only one I have is XP 64bit and it had more problems than this. I would like to, but spending that much money for XP pro 32bit is not in the cards. I had it installed but in moving over here to Texas I lost it so my bad. Not going to make it worse. Plus my wife would kill me if she isn't already planning it for spending so much for this upgrade. hehe

L4D Paranoia Mini Mod - Download link included
//L4D PARANOIA MINI MOD//
This is a variant of the origional survival mod, but changes the features and feel to the gameplay quite alot. Unfortunately some features I wanted to include such as the randomised weapons on the map haven't made it cos it just too much of a pain to implement.. ( WHERE's THE DAMN SDK !!!! )...
The idea behind Paranoia mode is that the weapons aren't as effective, zombies are harder to kill and are more ferocious. You will notice that there is a much higher population of zombies, they are quite docile and can be sneaked past if very careful. Not all of the zombies are so calm however, every so often 'Runner' zombies will break off from the pack and charge at the survivors. They can come from any direction and apart from their footsteps and moans are quite silent. How you treat these runners can completely reverse your chance of survival. For example : you manage to sneak past a large group of 'dociles' and then notice a 'runner' charging through them. You open fire on the runner taking it down in seconds, but the bullets penetrate through it and into the crowd behind. All of the zombies you inadvertently shot will now wake up and charge at you in a frenzy...
The revised pipebombs are now an efficient way of clearing rooms and large groups of 'dociles' without attracting too much attention. As they no longer attract zombies you can throw one into a packed room, hide round the corner waiting for the detonation then continue through the cleared room.

Anyway here's the feature list:
- No special zombies (apart from tweaked tank at finale)
- No AI controlled survivors
- Completely new weapon sounds
- New weapon stats (recoil, damage, clip sizes, penetration etc.)
- Pistol no longer has infinate ammo
- Uzi is now considered a primary weapon like the pistol, so can be carried with other weapons and can be used whilst incapacitated
- Pipebomb is replaced by a standard frag grenade. It no longer beeps or attracts zombies. Its main use now is to clear rooms or paths through the zombie horde
- Molotov flame spread reduced
- Burn damage increased
- Simplified HUD (displays only players health)
- No crosshair
- Slower survivors, now dependant on movement direction. For example walking backwards is slower than walking forwards
- Increased friendly fire damage
- Survivors can only be incapacitated once before they die
- Slower melee attack
- No music
- No item / player glows
- Zombies much more resilient. Their bodies can withstand alot of punishment before they will die (eg. whole uzi clip). Headshots are they only efficient way of killing them quickly
- Zombies attacks are much quicker and more viscious, especially if they hit you from behind
- Zombies are much less vocal. Apart from moaning and their frenzied footsteps they are very quiet, be careful or you will find youselve being dispatched by an unseen / unheard zombie
- Much larger population of docile zombies. The zombies respond only if shot or if you get too close to them. Can be avoided if careful
- Every so often a 'Runner' zombie will charge at the players. Be careful when shooting the runners as bullets can penetrate their flesh and hit docile zombies behind them
- And more smaller tweaks....
It is also easier to install.
