Re: New rig
looks like an excellent system, a bit more motherboard than you probably need, I would look closer to 100$ than 200...
The CPU fan isnt going to really be the problem, it the graphic card that you will most likely hear in the middle of the night.
The case will help your noise, I have the 182 and at idle my system is extremely quiet.

Re: New rig
The 180b case is awesome. I have it, and dont hear a thing. Only thing is, the power supply goes at the bottom of the case instead of the top, which may or may not cause a prob for some. Easy to take the side panel off, with thumb screws. Has enough space to stick like 8-9 hard drives. Great case over all. Sucks though, I found it on sale for 50 when I built my rig a few months back.

Re: New rig
haha crazy. ive had all this stuff in a wish list for the past...4 or 5 months and i loved to just check it and watch the price fall everytime. i figured they arent going to drop much more for a while so i had to jump on the chance.
i like the idea of the power supply on the bottom, i dont have like 5 hard drives and 4 cd burners so i always have extra cables hanging down. but now i wont have to look at them dangling there!
make sure you look at the amp readings for your power supply. the 8800 requires 32 amps on the 12v rail, and if you look most power supplies (the ones i saw) were only 18. then i saw this bad boy on sale so i had to go for it (saved $60!) i cant wait to get it!!!! 299 fps here i come! lol

Re: New rig
Thats a nice rig man, are you actually planning on going SLI at some point? if not you can probably save buck by getting a non SLI mobo... but being ready for the future may be qool.
It doesnt seem like SLI does much unless you are running high resolution ( >1280x1024). I actually have 2 8800 GTS 640s and BF2, 2142, CS:S, Oblivion, Civ 4, NWN2, etc.. all my games perform better in single GPU!
DX10 is supposed to have a larger frame buffer which would make SLI perform better. But who knows when that will actually work! By the time SLI works my 8800's and my SLI mobo may be old. If I had the same options now I might go non-SLI and get a nice non-SLI mobo and maybe a fatter card (8800 ultra). Also, SLI takes up a lot of space. All I can fit is my sound card, I cant put in a phys-x card. I know you arent going SLI yet, but if you do these are some things to consider, and if not, that Mobo you picked could be scaled back a bit.
Just a thought... that mobo is phat.

Re: New rig
Ive considered it and i was looking at boards without sli and you save only like 50 bucks. and with this whole new wave of games in dx10 i figured that i might need one eventually. Ive always like the idea, plus with my monitor i would like to be running these games in high resolutions (im running css at 1180 x whatever on my gtx 6800 haha) so i definitely wanna be able to tell that i got something new.
Plus if i hold off on my second card for a while i can easily get it for atleast a 100 or 200 cheaper with new cards being released every 6 months ya know plus they are always tweaking these older cards. So i am basically preparing for the chance that i might get into a new game thats badass and worth seeing it in all its glory!!

Seeking a competitive team
Hey guys. I'm 16, English, pretty down to Earth fella and I'd say I'm mature ^^
I'm currently looking for a core position in a British team (but I'm willing to give a Euro team a try Wink) which will enter tournaments and ladders, etc (and maybe willing to go to lans, such as i-series). I've played in one public L4D team, and I pretty much know the ins and outs of the game from a public point of view, but I'm wanting to go further and expand my skill by getting into the competitive scene. I wouldn't rate myself low skill, but I'm no pro either xD. I used to play CSS competitively and got in a few good teams, so I have quite a bit of experience in teams.
Any team who trials me MUST have dedicated members and be interested in ladders/tournies, as I aren't really interested in playing publicly anymore. If your team is willing to give me a try, add me on steam or xfire and give me a shout Smile
Steam: Geozone
Xfire: actionjacksn
