Should ahve said - I tried that too. Went from 9.8 to 9.6 - got me a few extra fps, but not that much.

I wonder if the relatively low clock speed (2.1) is the culprit - it seems to be using all the cores, but I can't think of any other reason why a dual core 5200 would outperform the triple core...

Well, you could launch the game, then go to your task manager and set the affinity to one cpu and see what happens.

I'm going to update this as I fiddle with things, just incase someone else experiences a similar problem...

Today, I downgraded from 9.7 (previously 9.8) to 9.2, and disabled AMD Cool'n'Quiet in BIOS. There has been a considerable improvement. Not sure, yet, which did it - I'll try going back to more recent drivers to find out...
