It's happening on any setting, vs or campaign. It makes no sense because it doesn't happen for any specific reason. Just randomly crashes when I create or when I join a new game created by someone else.

Was happening a lot yesterday and thought it maybe something to do with BT capping over the weekend but it's happening this morning too and BT is not capped yet.

    Anyone have any ideas?
You can try deleting a file called ClientRegistry.Blob which is located in the Steam directory. When you start Steam again, it will recreate itself. This may help, or it may not. I am not sure what else to suggest other than contacting your ISP and see if they have any ideas.

If I join an already created server, it works just fine and doesn't crash.

Am launching on best dedicated server so dunno why it's happening. Any idea why?
Same issue for ages. My only solution is to exit the game, exit steam. Disable your wireless , wait a few seconds. Enable the wireless and re-enter the game. If it does it again , repeat until it stops. If someone know's a permanent fix , please let me know too.

    hmm a familiar face :-)

The damn homehubs do seem to be troublesome with L4D

*one important questions: when you get disconnected from game, do you also briefly get disconnected from the internet?

In the console can you try:

rate 7500 (also try 9999 if that doesn't improve things)
    cl_updaterate 20
    cl_cmdrate 30

Now try playing, see if you disconnect. (if you quit game these settings are lost)
If this makes things better, you want to add those commands permanently to your userconfig.cfg
