    survivor balancing

whenever i go onto steam's left 4 dead forums. its a constant war of "OMG, SURVIVORS ARE SOO OVERPOWERED!! NERF THEIR ASSES NAO!" followed by "NO YOU RETARD, THEY ARENT!" along with actual educated answers. the infected arent as helpless as some people say they are IMO. but alot of the advantages the survivors have seem to be a little one sided. mainly its defibs and melee weapons, and a little bit of medkits but they're not that big an issue. i already made a post about melee weapons so i wont repeat myself.

anyway, i think the idea defibs are fine in versus. whether a survivor died due to their stupidity or a successful infected ambush. it was never as fun to wait and watch your teammates fight they're way though as opposed to fighting along side them. that and it stopped players quitting because they're "bored". but frankly. its too much for a defib to not only work 100% of the time, but grant a full 50 points of hp right after death. so heres how i think defibs should work

    1) defibs will work only 60% of the time: while gameplay is better than realism. i dont see how a few jolts of electricity will bring someone back to life after they're entrails have been ripped out. that and it would teach the survivors either "ok your no longer dead, dotn do it again." or "sorry but it didnt work. tough shit"

    2) if a survivor is revived. he has 10 points of health while in black and white: it kinda helps to ensure the medkit problem so one is absolutley needed after revival. as for the survivors. it makes it more tense because while their buddy is alive, he's in mortal danger and have to keep a close watch on him while hes being healed or if they're looking for health supplies. as for infected, they have an opportunity to home in on the survivors if they're not already dead. to the infected players who whine about defibs, this would say: "before you ragequit, the player is dangerously close to death. it wasnt all iin vain" like i said earlier. the survivors would be wary of their buddy but if the team works together, they can nullify the defib.

with that said, tell me if im right/wrong or expand on your opinion. have a good day

i agree that the survivors are slightly overpowered but i dont see defibs being a problem... ive played a ton of versus and rarely are they used, also you cant defib a guy that gets run off the edge of a building (DC) or ran into the water (SF) etc... i just dont see the director doing anything with medpacks, if my team gets medpacks in a certain spot the other team gets the same. I think if the game is turning into a blowout the director should realize this and adjust medpacks accordinglyor something... kinda like a racing game that has catch up on. at least if your getting blown out the director could help you in some way

i dont think defibs are a problem either, i mean, yea they would be if they were found frequently, but normally there's only 1. sometimes none at all.

if the defib only worked 60% of the time, people would never take the defib because why take a 'get out of jail free card' if its not guaranteed to work? and then even if it does work, it can simply be made reduntant after a few hits from a couple of horde zombies?

nah, i think the defib is fine. it presents a good trade off of either: do i take a med kit so that i can last, or do i take a defib in case something bad happens? but doing so leaves me in a way vulnerable to dying?
yea it does kinda suck when a great plan against a good team which results in someones death is just countered with a defib. but really thats all teamwork again isnt it? someone on that team decided that they shud take a defib instead of med kit just to be safe and it paid off for them. also its nice that when u die on vs ur not necasarily out of it forever (you probably are still but none the less you have a chance this time)

Just depends i suppose. its not nice having your hard work as infected nullified but u gotta see it from survivors point of view too
