You need to bump it up, test it - IE run something stressful like a looping 3dmark or some other processor stressing app - make sur it is stable. If it is bump it up some more.

Eventually you will reach a point where you cannot increase the speed and have it load and run the stability tests for extended periods. You know pretty much where your high end limit is and can dial down a bit from there and rerun the stability tests to be sure.

It can take awhile if your truely looking for the highest overclock you can get. If thats not your goal the AI overclock will work fine and will overclock the entire system (minus Graphics card) - I think I have the asus AI overclocking my system to 8% and have no stability issues.

Re: Unlock bios to overclock?

thanks for all the help guys. soy, i ended up not doing it manually and i used the AI thing and am leaving it at 20% which bumps me up to 2.88GHz.
i ran 3dmark06 on each stepping and here are the results.
originally, my score was 11158.

after 5% increase

The math is right, but I would start in the 275 range...

And that 1066 is different from the CPU frequency bus, its complicated, but DO NOT try to crank up your CPU to 1066...

again start with 270-275 and increase slowly from there.
the only thing i saw that i could change was that 1066. it said the minimum is 500 and the max is 3000. i imagine that if i change that 1066 up slowly, it would work...i was really looking for something saying fsb=266MHz because thats what it was at w/ a multiplier of 9. i now have it set at 320MHz with multiplier of 9. seems perfectly stable w/ vcore 1.35-1.38. unloaded temp of 35C.

and with that, I'm done assisting.

You need to do some reading. I'd recommend toms hardware and anandtech. maybe some trash at hardocp. Read up about clock frequencies, FSB's, DRAM Clock ratios, ram timings (all of them), the relationship between speed, voltage, temperature, cooling, and noise, differences in core versions, bios's.....you have a lot to learn.

and if you learn it now, you'll be better at this. Understand what overclocking is, and we can talk. Otherwise it's going to be basic question after basic question.

That is some seriously sound advice; if today was the first time you saw that Total Mhz = Frequency (FSB) x Multiplier, then I am sure you will want to learn about all the other busses on your system.

Like I said before, succesful overclocking is a balancing act between tweaking the speeds of the CPU, RAM and every other bus on your system...and each of those has a lot to read about. Just digging into the nuts and bolts of RAM alone will yeld enough acronyms to make your head spin!

Good choice for now. If you expand the fields in the nifty dashboard thingy AIbooster uses, you will see that it tweaked memory timings and voltages as well. If you want manually overclock, you will need to understand how it arrived at those numbers.

Like I said, I eventually just turned it off because my system seemed uber enough for me! If it doesnt get the jaggies with everything turned all the way up why stress it out?

A couple of l4d2 questions, thinking of buying it.

Hellow all,

I am thinking of buying left 4 dead 2 for the pc. but i got a couple of questions. It would be very helpfull if anyone could answer these for me since i cant find the answers on the internet.

- Does left 4 dead 2 for pc has a lan mode where i can play co-op missions with my friends?
- does the internet-multiplayer has dedicated servers or does it only has a function like direct play. (i want to go to the servers where my friends are playing, is this possible?).

- last question: i got a intelcore 2 duo 2,53 ghz, 4gb ram and 1gb video card. How good wil it run?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings,

Bas Reijnders

In the game box it says the minumum requirements is 3.0GHz, Intel or AMD. 1GB RAM for XP and 2GB for Vista.

Actually I only have 2.66GHz IntelCore Duo and 1GBRAM and it works. I put it on minimum settings to run OK.

You can play the games with your friends in dedicated servers and in local servers (your internet connection is used as server). If you want to play a game your friend(s) is/are playing, he/she/they need to have a open slot for you to join. The best is just to create a new lobby and add all the friends in "Friends-Only MOde". After that, change to "Public" and people will join to fill the remaining seats.

thanks for your answers so far.
