I think I am set. I posted this a day and 7 hours ago. I made more progress in that time than I have in three weeks of trying to research.

yeah.....DDR1066 motherboards are prohibitively expensive...and the increased bandwidth will not translate into increased fps or game performance.

so...it's a waste of cash.

Although I will exercise discipline and not reply in the bigdog box thread until things are final, I wanted to bring some feedback to all who weighed in on how to proceed with this box.

I threw what I wanted out there and watched a lot of very smart people debate it until the final specs were decided on. I think it took 2 days? Marketing hype from the vendors was cast aside and cost effectiveness won out.

Witness the strength of TTP.

Nice indeed. I am not sure what you are upgrading from, but if it is far enough back the battlefield may look like a completely different game on that beast.

I am currently on a Dell P4 3.2 (Prescott) I have a nice 8600GT card. You would think my machine would be decent. I think it scored 4,500 on 3D mark?

4,500...? that's about half of what it should be. Make sure you have your BIOS setting correct for your chip... Some mother boards ship with lesser speeds preset. I know I had this case many years ago, and i thought that was no longer the case.... but you never know.

Still, your score should be in the range of 10,000 +/-...

modified for idiocy - oohhh, that was your old (current) machine, I understand now. So your new machine will be in the range of 10,000 +, I'll bet you get in the range of 12,000+.
