Definitely not a 11000 though!
Quoted for emphasis.

My system is:

Intel Quad Core Q6850 2.94ghz running at 3.2
2 gb Corsair XMS2 memory
2x WD Raptor 74gb in RAID 0
2x eVGA nVidia 8800 GTX 768 in SLI
Soundblaster Fatal1ty Pro Gamer

.. and without any tweaks (other than running the processor at 3.2ghz instead of it's stock 2.94), I score about 12K on 3D Mark 06 in 1680x1050. I'd have to look it up again, but that's what I remember right off the top of my head.

A 4500 is a decent score with that system - especially the Prescott. Good, sturdy processor, but it's showing it's age.

Haha - I made the same mistake as McStrange.

New machine - maybe between 9-10K, depending on OS and resolution.

BAH! I made no mistake!
A p4 paired with a 8600 would put up 4500 like 3d06 mark numbers.

his new beast is clocking in at 11102.

you need to log in, and link your dynamic compare link to your most recent published project in 3dmark.

......muqtar's is a single 8800GT, and he's in the 11000. If you've got 2 8800GTX's in SLI....and a 3.2 quadcore.....and you're ONLY getting 12,000......something aint right.

I could easily bump up to 12,000 if I adjuted a few timings and bumped the clock barely 2-3%.

maybe your SLI isn't on?

Odd how frequently this occurs.

While enabling SLI may give better 3dmarks, at that resolution I dont know that SLI is going to help actual gameplay by that much...maybe 5 to 10 FPS more? But in any case I am guessing though that even in Single GPU mode that beast you got rocks the house for almost every game out there.

Don't forget a really good monitor to show off all that shizzle. I got a Samsung 226CW, it was'nt cheap but man was it worth it. I can't find any listed in the States but you can find the 226BW for around $300 and it's just about the same.

My old Dell = 4,500 or so
My new BigDog Box = 11102.

I am in the process of selecting a fitting monitor.

Needless to say I am very happy with the results.

Re: Preparing to build a PC - need YOUR help.

Okay, if I did this right - this is my first attempt at linking someone to one of my 3D Mark 06 results:

http://service.futuremark.com/orb/re...jectId=4631603

Funny story - I forgot to enable SLI after my last driver update.

However.

3DMark06 still only shows one video display device in it.

My score was just shy of 13k - 129xx

I've got another 8800 GTX that I'm selling, and once that goes through, I'm toying with the idea of going from 2gb of Corsair XMS2 800FSB to something faster, and 4 gigs of it. Which, I'll obviously go to Vista 64 if I do that.

Other than that .. maybe I'll start a new thread with my system stats / bios settings, maybe someone can suggest some tweaks.

I'm a bit shy about overclocking after (years ago) attempting to overclock a 486 DX4 100 and smoking it. So I tend not to futz around with it too much. But I honestly feel this rig isn't at it's fullest potential.

And once I finish school and end this six year health-induced hiatus from working, I'm looking into going to a bit better of a monitor (though I'm perfectly happy with this one, so I don't know) and some network storage, etc., here in the house.

(Monitor - right now a 20.1" Sceptre - beautiful monitor that's just over a year old. Runs at 1680x1050)

I currently have a Dell E173FP (flat screen freebie when I bought this machine 3 years ago). I suspect it isn't the best thing in the world, but it does work.

I am using a ViewSonic VX922 and love it. 19" 1280x1024 and fast at 2ms. around 250 bucks right now. That is key for gaming monitors. If it is LCD look for a fast one. 8ms or less will work fine, but lower is better. Typically larger monitors have slower refresh rates unless you fork out premium dough. Like I said less than 8ms and you are good to go. Slower than that and you get "ghosting."
It sounds like the monitor I pick needs to have something above a 1280X1024 maximum resolution?

The following link looks like a reasonable monitor?
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0261082

I also need to figure out how to keep the Dell in circulation, as my wife needs it for Citrix, she works from home several days a week.

I noticed this monitor has a VGA input as well as a DVI. For all you McGyver types out there, does this mean I could run VGA to the Dell and DVI to the Bigdog box (at the same time, one of the two would always be turned off), using a switch box for the peripherals such as mouse and keyboard?

Assuming the Bigdog box will agree to sit in the same room with the dell?

This is one of those 'good' problems. Damn I can't wait for the new box to show up.

Yeah that monitor has been a prime choice for many lately. it's fast, widescreened, and economic. I say get it unless you wanna fork out 100 or more dollars for the next step up.

And yes, if it is like the 4 flat panels I have here that have VGA and DVI inputs it will let you switch between them.
