Encrypting my Wireless

I'm greedy and don't wish to share my bandwidth with my neighbors. What can I do to make sure only my household is using my bandwidth via wireless?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Putting a pasword on is great, I suggest TKIP. Also turning off the SSID broadcast will keep the standard Joe from seeing your network via most Wireless config wizards.

Lastly try using MAC authentication. If your not on the list you won't get in (again for 99% of users).

Great ideas. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to actually password protect my wireless. If I can't figure that out, I sure as hell won't be able to figure out TKIP or SSID (acronyms that might as well be Portuguese)

Login into your router through IE. Go to wireless tab and you should be able to do it from there.

Here's a link to the router manual:
http://www.belkin.com/support/articl...man_hi-res.pdf

Page 55 has info about the security features. Use WPA/WPA2-PSK mode. For Encryption Technique, choose AES. This is more secure than TKIP. Rather than a password, I recommend a passphrase. Something that's fairly long but easy to remember.

I definitely recommend making sure you're running the latest firmware (also available on Belkin's wesbite.) That'll ensure you have the full feature set offered for wireless security.

That is the exact information that I needed. I already had the manual open but had no idea where to start. Thanks so much for everyone's help!

One last question...for now. I know there's a specific way to resest/clear the cache for the router. What are those steps? Does it matter if I unplug my connection from PC to router first or modem to router or whatever the steps are?
