    Read My Hardware

What utility can I use to read my computer and create a report as to what hardware is part of my system so I can have my IT Pro (...big...) know what I have?

    Re: Read My Hardware

How specific are you talking? Like what brand mobo and such or just your processor clock speed, video card and ram?

'cause even xFire does the latter. Though, I do not know of any programs off the top of my head that will give specifics.

As specific as possible. I was hoping to get (as you mentioned) make, model, mobo, sound, video, memory, everything.

    Re: Read My Hardware

if you are using windows XP, from the start menu -> run -> winmsd
Take some screenies of the data there. It gives you all the data that the device manager does and then some... I bet there is a nicer 3rd party program to do it, but I have never needed one...

CPU Z will give you a lot of info about Mobo, Proc, RAM, I would use that and snapshot that stuff. and then use winmsd for the other things...

winmsd does not exist in Vista however... does anyone know it's equivalent?

Ignore all that, too much work. There has to be a nice 3rd party program that makes a neat little report, and someone here should have a clue what that software is. If I find one in the next few minutes I'll let you know...

    Re: Read My Hardware

If you go to www.pcpitstop.com and run the full test here: http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp
once you have finished the test on the top right hand corner there will be several links and one of them will be for your hardware.
Detailed list, that is how I get a good list.
