Thread: New rig in the works...thoughts?

So after having two systems suffer horrid fates over the past year, I thought it time to build a new rig. This one is for games, sound, and video editing. The following are the specs that I have so far. Any suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated.

Are you going to be running XP or Vista? I don't think XP recognizes more than 3GB of RAM.
Also, will an 8800 outperform two 8600s? That might be something to look into.

Drop the 8600's for a single 8800gt It will outperform them for 3/4 of the price.

Looks like you are missing a sound card, speakers and an OS unless you already have them.

couple things. i think the processor and mobo are great choices.

Why the two GPU's? maybe you can run 1 of them and drop the 20" monitor and grab a 22" with the price difference. Also I agree that 8800GT 512 is best bang for buck. you dont need the GTS as styley mentioned. Talk to Soysoldier about SLI and he can help you decide if you want 1 or 2 GPU's.

ah, and if you are looking to OC your C2Q, you might wanna look at a P35 board as they seem to OC quads the best.

i am going with vista on this one. the 8800 is definitely something to look into. i would need two of which ever video card i went with as this is going to be a four-display system

as for the sound card, i have a 7.1 card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829127002) that i plan on using.


Another question i have is is the 750W PS going to be enough?

Yea you wont use more then 500 with the quad and two cards.

i am using a 600W and it says it can handle SLI so 750W with two cards i think you should be plenty fine.
