My friends/girlfriend all make fun of me for it, by best friend often remarks about how it would be literally impossible for him to take a video game seriously while positioned like that.

I tried to put my feet up on the desk, keyboard on my lap but it just feels awkward, plus with the mouse you need to really hold it at an upright position to be really accurate I've noticed.

When do you hear someone say "if only I had the ability to move at 83% of my usual speed, I would of been able to kill that guy!"
It all depends on the game and the moment.

    An example being..

Ever see a KBM player try to shoot someone while driving in GTA4 as they are making a sharp turn. Now thats funny..

Even in L4D, when we both play together im basically zippin around changing speeds and directions and he's not even close to as chaotic as me. Pushing different buttons to match speed isn't the same as 1 simple sensitve stick.

Even when i play VS against him he would call me a slippery lil fucker, he's never once complimented me on my aim.

    But thats just my opnion...

I honestly don't see the need of PC vs Xbox 360 flame wars. You have never played each other so you don't know everyone's traits.

So like I said - I think it comes back to if you can actually make this as functional as a Mouse, I think you're going to have a huge advantage, which others wont be able to replicate unless they pay someone to mod their hardware for them, or unless they know enough about computers themselves.
I understand where your coming from but I'm also of the opinion that anyone can do this given the time and knowledge. I'm not some mad scientist, I'm just a guy with the internet who found another guy doing the same project with a web page. Obviously I can't use it in "real" games because the use of a "modded" controller is banned. But in public play? I'm not so sure.

Maybe I'll just stick to campaign mode when I use it. I don't need to give anyone another reason to complain when they get beat in a public game of versus.

Basically it is like a "fighters joystick" in my mind. I spent the money/time to make one for myself and I don't feel bad about using it online because those 2D fighters are intended to be played with the joystick. Just like FPS games are intended to be played with the keyboard/mouse.

I'd be really interested to know how functional you've gotten this to work though. Ie: Have you been able to make a mouse function without lag and is 100% precise in terms of reaction speed?
It is close to the PC yes.

What you and your friends have been using are one of these right?

Amazon.com: Xfps 360 - Keyboard & Mouse Adapter for Xbox 360: Video Games

Those things by themselves are awful, there are many reasons but the main one is this:

Dead zones: All FPS games on the console had a dead zone programmed into them. Basically it is a small window (usually square or semi-circle) on the left joystick where minor movements are not picked up. This way the screen isn't constantly in motion. This allows you to have stable aim with the stick.

When you start using a mouse instead of the stick this dead zone becomes a problem because minor movements of the mouse are not picked up. Basically you have to move the mouse further than you would in the PC version and constantly adjust for the dead zone when you stop moving. This is where the "lag" your talking about comes from.

What I'm doing is using a piece of software to ignore these dead zones. Basically when I move my mouse my PC sends a single through the adapter to the xbox saying "Yo, this analog stick (mouse) has passed the dead zone". Hence I get the feel I'm looking for.

Also if your like me you crave faster aiming on console FPS games. This set-up allows me to do just that. I can go way beyond the sensitivity that it normally possible through the use of software running on the PC.

The set-up right now looks like this:

Keyboard/mouse -> PC running Windows XP -> micro-controller (home made Keyboard/mouse to PS2 adapter) -> XFPS adapter PS2 (as in the console) port -> Xbox 360.

The XFPS is used to bypass the security of the console and provide a PS2 controller input port, nothing more.

So, basically the reason why the XFPS sucks is due to the fact that they didn't put enough work into them. If they would have spent a little more money those things would be a great all in one solution to the problem.

BTW every game has a different dead zone, so you have to change some configurations if you go from playing L4D1 to something like MW2. Finding those dead zones is half the fun though. It isn't very plug and play in other words.

I understand what you mean, but like I said - you're still modifying/hacking components of the game. I don't feel like its right that in order for me to be on equal playing ground, control wise - I have to go through the internet, hack some components together, etc. Joysticks are able to be bought for fighting games - Keyboard and mouse aren't really available to you without having to heavily modify components.

If microsoft actually came out with a Keyboard and Mouse attachment - I'd have no problem, because if you really wanted that edge, all you'd have to do is buy the attachment, but it's not that easy in this current state. And the only other alternative if you dont know or have the time to build one like you, you're stuck with a gimped product that probably handicaps you more than helps you.

If you wanna use it campaign only, that's fine - hell if I were you I'd probably try it out on versus, see if it actually gives me an edge or not. But I'd be pissed if I found out my opponent had a KBM. Just my honest opinion.

O yea I know exactly where your coming from and I assure you I'm not going to go around griefing people with it.

If it helps I can't use my mic with this set-up because I have no input for it. So I'm stuck using a wireless mic (which I don't own atm) and going without my headset or using my headset and not begin able to talk to my team mates.

I played some campaign with it today and it was a joy. Have yet to try it in versus mode but I will to see how it works with the hunter. I'm really interested in finding out how much better my wall pouncing will be with the mouse. Next project is figuring out how to get my headset working with this of course...still trying to figure out how I'm going to pull that one off. Might have to build my own adapter by hacking up an old wired 360 controller.

They have this mouse/controller for a ps3, MAC and PC SplitFish - Elevate your Gameplay..

Wonder how long till its out for xbox.

Anything like that would be great for Xbox... Actually anything but a keyboard. Keyboards are horrible for fast paced moving games.

Saying you're a cheater for using this device is the same as saying someone using a tb headset is cheating. It's not your fault people don't have the money for equipment or knowledge to create it.

pc vs xbox test was flawed because for one, you can't have the "best" xbox players and not include me, and two, it doesn't really prove anything about the players themselves, just that it's easier to aim with a mouse, which everyone already knows.

    Anyone can buy TB's.

Where can I buy a fully functional keyboard and mouse? Oh right - I CANT. The ones they have for sale are garbage and aren't responsive.

As is, if he did built a fully functional keyboard and mouse with no dead zones - he'd have a huge advantage that no one else can equal to unless they're able to build one from scratch.

Not all Xbox users... I for one have mentioned numerous times that I am well aware a mouse and keyboard offers finer control...

... that said, my skill at L4D isn't exactly ground breaking, and IMO the game does play really well on a controller, all things considered. I think if I was playing it on a PC, I might be a bit more agile, but really, a mouse and KB wouldn't suddenly make me a godlike player. With that considered, I wouldn't be that fussed if someone was using a mouse and KB on an Xbox.

The control scheme for L4D really works on an Xbox controller when you get used to it. I guess to get the most out of it on a PC you had better be using a 5 button mouse.
