Thread: who uses alienware computers? & and how good are they?

Well my rig scores over 13k in 06 and I dont have any where near 1500 into it.

Your pricing makes no sense to me or you are looking at the wrong numbers.

1400 for that. my rig is better and payed way less.

Grove... I think you missed the point.

Its not about who has less or more for what. The issue is what the end user wants to go through to have fun. I am perfect example..
I built my own systems...I liked doing it dont get me wrong...but im alot older now and i dont have the time or inclination to deal with all of the hardware Idiosyncrasies involed with building my own box anymore. To me a pre built top of the line box is fine and dandy.... no OCing no wizbang extra widgets.. just what i need.. no more no less.

your point is understood. for you this works. you can spend the extra money it takes to buy a higher end dell prebuilt. I built mine on a budget (wanted to stay around 1000) and I wanted most bang for my buck so I built my own. Plus I love building these things. Plus I get excited when OC'ing and all that fun stuff. I found myself wondering what to do when I got my rig tweaked and stable...Then I remembered that I bought the damned thing for gaming. haha. So yea, its endless fun for me. I understand where you are coming from too though.

I am old to .. 38 married for 11 years 8 year old little girl, house/mortgage/2 cars ect.

And I absolutely love to build and tweak. And I like oc'ing and extra wizbang widgets

My point is you can always build something better than you can get pre built. And cheaper.
I run a Intel e4300 which is a 1.8ghz chip.. Running very comfortably at 3.2ghz ( on air ) .. Its like taking a vw bug and making it faster than a Porsche. Its fun and very rewarding.

To me building it and tweaking it out is the fun. I have the money to buy any pre built dell/alienware..
But I choose to spend my money on other things.

War .. I see you have the dell xps 720 and your 3dmark score is 10k... I did that with an AMD socket 939 rig that cost about $500 ... And you spent how much? :9 An e6600 and 8800GTX should be pulling down better numbers than that.. My rig now is very budget minded and pulls down over 13k in 3dmark06.

And trust me the difference between 10k and 13k is noticeable difference in performance.

We use Dell's at work. I'm half seriously thinking of buying alienware. The dell capacitors are beginning to disappoint me. All of the other major companies don't use higher quality boards so it's an option. LOL. Of course, I may have to get myself a few higher end "test" computers.
