Solution? I used a DVI to HDMI cable. With the cable, there was no problem converting the DVI to HDMI, and I was able to pass audio through my video card. I eventually changed this because the video card was limited to passing sound via SPDIF, and there were some files and applications that were not supported by SPDIF.
Anyways... the HDMI on the actual video card is a great idea if you use your TV with your Home Theater PC. And HDMI can actually handle more bandwith than DVI, so it IS the future of PC gaming... it's just not needed just yet.
