    Blank DVD Discs?

I finally got around to getting a DVD burner to backup some stuff. Any suggestions on media brands or is a blank a blank? What about using dvd-r vs +r any difference or just get what i can find on sale?

just get some basic dvd-r from a bestbuy or wherever. they will all work fine for you. later on you can get fancy and work with dual layer stuff if ya want but there is really no need unless you are doing video stuff

    Re: Blank DVD Discs?

in case you wanted to know wtf the difference was in the -R vs the +R, it was basically differing standards (like HD-DVD vs BluRay). the good news is that they weren't as different, so they could make combo recorders. the biggest difference between the two is the error correction on the +R formats. because of it, the +R discs are more reliable, but have slightly less capacity.

    check it:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD-R
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD%2BR

basically, the one thing you should remember is that if you are going to record movies onto them, think about the players. if you have a player made around or before 2002 when the +R standard hit, it may not be able to play the +R discs. other than that, it prolly doesn't matter.
