ok so apparently my cpu and motherboard suck... how much should a good combo run me?

around 300-400 dollars.
Something like these two would pimp you out:

ASUS P5N-E - 115
Core 2 Duo E8400 - 240

or you can go with:
Core 2 Duo E6750 - 190.

Do wjat mctrange said...cant go wrong with that setup...its fool proof and we KNOW it will perform consistantly. Got for the E8400..if you can find a deal like i did on a Q6600 for 199...even 249, jump on that....quad ftw! But the E8400 is mean as well.

Are you also going to need new ram if you by a new mobo combo. If so make sure to add the cost of that to.

They both use DDR2 so your Memory will useable on any new mobo. Now whether or not you have the fastest memory you can use is another matter.

the only down fall to the P5N-E SLI is that its not 2.0 PCI-E i just sold mine for that reason and it was 3 weeks old. and as far as the E8400 it fucking rocks!. Thats what i was running till i got the qx 9650. we got my E8400 to 4.2 on air!
