wow, i read that and a mental image of holding a CD that has multiple movies games on it flashed into my head... think about it you could have the complete rambo or indiana jones collection on just one disc!!!! (was going to say james bond but there may be to many lol)

the only issue with taht aricle is they dont explain how they were able to overcome the distortion/refraction issue they were having with the multiple layers... i mean 200 is a mightly large number...

i was wondering about how much the price of these things would be... cause for people who refuse to constantly update their computer, like myself, simply purchasing a disc or two sounds like an awesome solution.

Seriously though, things are just going to get bigger and bigger and this will help make it easier to have all the data readily available on 1 disk. Servers could be backed up completely on a single disk and save you some space and make it easier to literally back up massive databases.

For the general public it just means you have a lot more shit to add for your custom disks for now until we reach the point where games, programs, and applications are that large. By the time 2010 rolls around I don't think the general public will need quite that much yet, but it will definitely be handy for tech people and people who work with large database files.
