Thread: Trying to figure some things out

I've always lagged out pretty badly well very badly I mean any of you who play with me know this :P This may be a very pointless post but I know some of you are good with computers and I was thinking that maybe you could help me figure out the source of all my major lag. here's my rig

I have a linksys wireless router that I use for internet. I lag in everything heck I lag in Battlefield 1942 :P I never lag in any SP version of any game if thats any relevance but I lag like crazy whenever I go online. Also when I lag out and freeze completely I get a lost connection message in most games. I usually just wait this out but occasionally I lose connection from the server and the EA master server when in 2142. I've been able to run every game very smoothly with no real problems except for FFOW. Just trying to figure out what the main source of my lag is as it may be something I can fix.

Have you tried to connect without the LinkSys? It may be the cause of your LAG....

It's the only real sort of internet connection I have the actual box thing that we get internet through is a few rooms across. the room is too small for two computers and I don't have a wire long enough to reach my computer. Also my dad won't make way for me to get it to my PC either. (Your sisters might trip over it) He said

A better antenna on your end will probably help to alleviate some of your issue.

Get it high and as close to line of site with the Access Point as possible.

Avoid bluetooth and cordless phones in the vincinity as well.

What like the router? And if the phones are off do they still mess around with the signal?

You can put a better antenna on each... if you try playing right next to the router, and have no problems. this could be the fix.

It may just be that 1942 has some inefficient network code that is slamming the network connection up against the wall.

You can also try switching the channel that the router is using (the thought here is that there is another wireless signal too close to your channel).

may be expensive, but you could upgrade the router to N and get a compatable card for your computer.
