No, it won't cool. Not enough clearance between the bottom drives; massive imbalance between intake and exhaust; where does he think the air will go?.
And our dear friend will go through all this work only to find out the downright AWFUL write performance of RAID5. For static backups, or pure read-only, sure RAID5 is great. But write performance takes a hit, because every single time any single byte passes on or off the array, the whole parity field has to be recalculated and written to the parity drive.
It'll take him about 340 hours (or 2 full weeks!) of continuous writing to fill the array. 0+1 would be a better idea; sure it would limit you to ONLY 6TB, but it's fast and redundant, much better for frequent fileserving.
