Re: Stupid Fan Question - and TEMPS
For the 120mm, Scythe makes some great fans. I'm personally familiar with this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185005
And there's a higher speed one that's a little noisier and a slower speed one that, honestly, I don't why anyone would get- The S-FLEX E is so flippin' quiet already.
The cooler-master 120mm fans that came with my case are surprisingly decent, although lower flow than the scythe. But the CM fans are a lot cheaper.
Be aware buying fans that CFM ratings may sound good (airflow in cubic feet per minute) but there's always a trade-off with noise level.
Basically, anything below 19 db will be inaudible against your likely ambient noise. Between 19 and 22 db or so is still going to be pretty quiet- even with the CPU on your desk the noise won't be intrusive. A good fan in this range ought to be pushing between 40 and 50 CFM. The 25-ish db range will depend on your personal preference and fan count. I have 5 or 6 fans in the case, plus the CPU fan (120mm on a TR extreme cooler) and 25 db for each would be annoying to me. As you break 30 db, the noise starts getting quite intrusive, and anything over 35 is going to sound like a leafblower on your desk.
