A PS3 can wirelessly stream media (including HD media) from a Windows computer. An Xbox 360 can do the same (though you won't get HDMI quality picture if you don't have one equipped with HDMI, of course) and you'd have to buy the wireless adapter.
I wirelessly pull up my photos, video, and audio files on my PS3 and watch them on my projector / listen on the surround sound -- it's pretty sweet.

That's pretty cool. A PS3 has been on my "maybe" list for some time anyway. Only thing stopping me from buying it is I don't think I'd ever have the free time to use it!

A PS3 is rising up on my list of things to buy for my home theater. It's one of the cheapest BluRay players on the market and plays games to boot. The other perk is that since Sony controls a lot of the direction of BluRay, you can be assured that the PS3 will almost always support the latest and greatest BluRay standard. It's one of the few currently that supports the BluRay online content since it has a network interface.

Yes, even if you completely discount the ability to play video games it's still a bargain for a network-enabled Blu-Ray player and an HD wireless media center. Plus, it can cure cancer in it's spare time (folding.stanford.edu)
