I could be wrong on this, but my understanding is that all other soundcards, either add in or onboard do not include a DSP so you still take the CPU load hit if you do not use creative.
They bought out Areal, their only real competition that had DSPs long ago...Sleep, eat, conquer, meditate, repeat.

Re: Creative threatening legal action on Custom Driver Makers
In reading this thread, I feel lucky that my Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty is working perfectly under Vista 64 with the latest Creative drivers. Damn, they created a lot of problems for you guys; and me too when I first went Vista.
But with all these problems revolving around creative, lets make a good list of other great soundcards known to work well under Vista. People defaultly go Creative (I always have) and it sound slike some people may shoot themselves in the foot doing so.

Not sure how good it is but take a look at the article.
Wonder how long it's going to be before Creative sues them.
One person did post about the Dolby Digital issue. If Daniel stepped on that, Creative has to take action since they will get into major issues with Dolby if they don't.
Of course, Daniel probably wouldn't have had to do anything if Creative made a decent driver set for Vista. I upgraded back to XP because of all the issues I had.

Now if everyone got together to sue cl on the basis of selling products with promised functions/features that acctually do not work...

Looks like Daniel_k does not have a driver for my Audigy SE that I had laying around.
Here are some mirrors of his work:

Of course use at your only risk
EDIT:
He's back...

Chatbox question.
Any chance I can get a create a thread for people to talk about their games so they can stop doing it in the chatbox?
Im sick of the few people (you guys know who they are) coming into the chatbox to talk about a game nobody cares about, and I would like to wipe it out.
So can I create a thread designed for talking about games or should I point them to the experiences with forum players, or should I just deal with it?
