If it's the same people all the time, tell them to make one thread for their games, but I don't see how GGD getting spammed with new threads is better.

Far as I'm concerned, they can talk all they want about stuff no-one cares about. But if you want you can make a thread entitled something like 'talk about that game where you think you were awesome but really no-one gives a shit'

I have to say, I actually fall in with Teen on this one. The difference in this case (in my mind anyway) is that it's not a chat. It's a monologue.
If it's two or more people talking about a game, then it's a conversation, and whilst it would likely be better off on IM or in the 'experiences with forum players' thread, at least it's a conversation with two or more people contributing, so that's fair game.
The examples above aren't - they're just one person spamming the cbox with self-propaganda about how 'awesome' they are and how many 1337 pr0s they pwned 'til they Q_Qed or whatever the damn kids talk about these days. They're not even talking about the game, they're talking about themselves.

Whilst I've expressed several times publicly that I have no intention of censoring the cbox and what people can and can't talk about, this is an increasing irritation, and I've nudged Jay in particular several times (including the example you can see) about this with no joy, and I'm a little short on ideas to discourage this short of actually enforcing a rule, which I'd prefer not to do.

Theres a 140 character limit. Use it. Its there for a reason... (not a problem with crimson though...)
Trying to get your cbox post count to be in the top 5 really isnt that big of a feat...and yes, no one gives two shits about your '1337 skillz'.

We probably have a few threads of "one time when you were really awesome in game". You could tell them to find that thread and to post in it. It would 1. make them gtfo for a few minutes 2. contribute to a post count that is actually relevant 3. add to the forums.

this thread is already getting on my bad sde. It was specifically for his tangents or whatever, and it seems more like people are just having friggin conversations.

If you do need to knock it on the head, perhaps a solution might be to direct users to the 'blog' feature. That would fulfil the requirements nicely, I believe.

As for the cbox situation, my personal non-admin opinion is that as long as it's a conversation and not just senseless bragging, I don't care what people talk about in there, but we need to remember that the cbox doesn't have an ignore feature, and that irritation (if left unchecked) will almost always end up overflowing into bitching and eventually fighting.
Jay has already irritated me to the point of comment several times, but I'm fortunate that I'm in a position where I can tell someone to be quiet because they're boring the tits off me and not cause drama (whether that's through reputation "lul, that's just TP being blunt" or the red hat I don't know or especially mind), but others aren't in that position but will say something anyway, and then the drama starts.

My 'Admin' point of view is still that I really don't want to enforce anything 'official', because not only do I not want to restrict folks' right to use the cbox as they wish (rules notwithstanding, of course), I'm also conscious that any such rule would be very vague and difficult to consistently apply, which puts our cbox mods in an unnecessarily tough spot. On the other hand, we have to remember that the cbox is there for everyone to use, not just a few who want to use it as a realtime commentary feature on whatever game they happen to be playing. That's not why it was brought back for everyone.

Its a chat box, its there for people to talk about shit without making a new thread or spamming up the forums - I love that - but there's a point when it just becomes SO OBNOXIOUSLY EYE-STABBINGLY FACEPALM worthy that there isnt anything more you really can do other than shoot them down, like TP has been doing ("NO ONE CARES").

I guess a few messages about your "SUPERLEETSKEET" is fine, but if someone is typing a novel that has the potential to kill the chatbox faster than lady gaga kills jason's libido, then, as I said before, tell them to post in a thread, make a thread, make a blog (I like that idea. Go you TP) &tc, &tc...

OR YOU KNOW, have a conversation on MSN/AIM/Whatever the kids are using nowadays.
