Mic stopped working!
Today, my mic just stopped working. I don't think it broke, because it just stopped suddenly and it's had a history of doing strange things, but for whatever reason it doesn't pick up anything. I've tried updating drivers, there's nothing weird in hardware, and I didn't do anything around the time it stopped; I was burning a DVD off of a camera at the time, and it just stopped. Is there anything I can do, or is it broken?
Let me know if there's any more info I can get for anyone who's trying to help.

Re: Mic stopped working!
I know exactly what killed mine..and new puppy.
But that probably not being your case...did you check your sound controls to make sure it isn't on mute on zero level volume/gain?
or
Check your mic pin and cable and make sure it wasn't bent or twisted accidentally
or
Are you on a Laptop? The built it microphone may be turned on and is overriding the external mic. You might need to check your BIOS and see if the Mic was turned on.
Hope that helps

Re: Mic stopped working!
What program were you using to burn the disks?
Also strangely enough, the mic volume that you see when you double click the volume icon in your taskbar is *not* the volume you're recording at, but rather the volume of your voice through the speakers when you speak into the mic. I actually have mine muted because I don't like to hear my own voice, and it records just fine. Here's how to get to the real recording volume if you haven't already done it:
Go to control panel -> sounds and audio devices -> audio tab and select volume under voice recording. Make sure mic is selected, of course, and turn up the volume if you need to. If that doesn't seem to work you can select Options -> advanced controls and hit the advanced button that appears under the microphone volume, and there should be a little check box that says mic boost or 20db boost.
See if that works.
