Internet Problems
Hey guys,
I got home today and turned on my computer and found my internet to be slower than normal. WAAAAAY slower than normal. I started BF2 to see what my ping was and it was arround 1600 to 1700. When I surf the internet, it takes a few minutes for every single page to load up.
I've tried restarting my computer twice. I'm not sure what to do about solving this issue. I don't know much about my internet connection because I share the internet with 3 roomates. One of the roomates has the thing in his room and he's not home right now. I'm thinking of going in there and turning off, unplugging, then replug and turn on. Do yall think that will solve this problem.
This has never happened before. Typically my internet connection is super fast, but waiting 5 minutes for a page to load up is ridiculous. I WANT TO PLAY BF2 NOW!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Internet Problems
I'm assuming it's Cable, seeing how it's a coaxial cable that is screwed into the back of the modem that's sittin in my roomates room under his bed. Then we have a hub that splits the internet between the 4 of us.
I got some more information about our internet. They have always told me in the past that we have really good internet service that's rated at 100 Mbps or 100000 Kbps. I did some tests on my computer and an old laptop that I turned on for the first time in about 8 months and I got the same numbers on both computers, download speed was 1106 Kbps and upload speed was about 25 Kbps. The internet comes with the rent and is paid for by our landlord. I spoke to him today and he said that if the problem persists then to notify him again in a day or so. IMO, if it's been like this for over the past 24 hours then that's pretty persistent. Did I mention that surfing the TTP website with those numbers above suck like hell. After I click the "Post" link below, it will take 4 minutes to do so and then I'll finally be at the next page....sucks.

Re: Internet Problems
Last night at about 1:37 am, I was posting in a thread. After I clicked the "post" link, I waited several minutes for the next page to load and it never did but instead it went to an error page. I was like, CRAP, I wrote a lengthy BOOK on the topic of this thread and now I lost it all. Well, I restarted internet explorer and tried to go to TTP and it wouldn't load up. I closed it again and re-opened internet explorer one more time and it loaded right up really fast. It seems that my internet connection is back to normal. I don't know what was going wrong with it but the speed of my internet is up to par for TTP BF2 gaming. Unfortunately, I missed two whole nights of BF2 and am pissed about that because I won't be able to play tonight, ... most likely. Talk about bad timing.

Re: Internet Problems
The "hub" you mentioned, I assume that it is some sort of router with a built in 4 port switch? If so, what model do you have?
For times of sluggish internet, there could be a couple of reasons.
1. Your roomates are using some type of file sharing program. Since you share your internet connection with them, this could cause your issues. Try turning off their pc's and see if that does not resolve your issue. If it does resolve your issue, let them know and see if they wouldn't mind not leaving their file sharing software open all the time.
2. Your roomates are downloading songs or porn?
3. Your cable model and router needs to be restarted. Sometimes, the cable modem will need to be reset. Unplug the power from both devices and remove the coax cable. Wait about 5 minutes and then plug the coax back in. Power on the cable modem and wait for it to finish loading up (1-3 minutes) and then plug back in the router.
4. The router (hub) may actually be a wireless device and you have other people living around you that are leaching off of your internet. Make sure you go into the router device settings and setup wireless security. I would suggest using an encrypted key for wireless authentication or enter the mac addresses for the wireless devices that need access to wireless internet.

Extreme rules!!
I really didn't have a clue what else to call this so... Extreme Rules it is..lol
This is how i've been playing campaign lately.. And i mostly play Realism campaign or Realims VS.. But this is for Realism Campaign.

------------------------------------------------------------------
For added Realism in a Realism Campaign shut off all Captions and Music.
And turn your MIC off. Ya, i said off.... Trust me this makes it all worth it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Now when playing with randoms you are playing with a 1 round rule.
If your whole team dies the game is over...
IF you die you MUST stay till they either make it or the all die too. No leaving till the story is over. (Sometimes you enjoy watching them die,,lol)
If you die and the team makes it to the next round you keep playing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This really has made me enjoy campaign much more... Since i have NO commitment to play with people who are doomed to fail over and over anyways.
You play L4D at its best. Which is 4 randoms trying to survive... One fail and its over and its on to the next game.
Of course if you meet up with some cool players and you enjoy playing with them leaving is kind of stupid. Il stay if i like the players.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The survivor set ups i posted at the top i've been using more and more lately.. Wether its L4D1 or Versus.. They are starting to become my own rules. Even with friends.
Have fun with it it,, I know i do... Peace everyone.

To spice up the game, me and my friends friendly fire (Always fun), and play this version called trials.
First, everyone gets weapons and kills any Ai in the saferoom. Then, the first person leaves the saferoom and starts the level. The rest wait a minute, and then another person leaves, another minute, the next leaves etc. Practically no rules, you don't have to save anyone or help, you can friendly fire is you want, it's a race.
First person to the saferoom goes first next time, second person goes second, and if anyone dies, the person who got furthest goes before someone who died at an earlier stage.
Best played on Realism so you can't save people easily once they've run off. It can lead to some fun scenarios, yesterday, the Parish first map, I stayed by the jukebox so my friends couldn't end the level. They came back and one of them tried to shoot me to death. I got to the saferoom but was incapped inside. I started the next on black and white, my friends took all the first aid so I was stuck hiding from the friend that tried to kill me before.
They incapped Ellis, and the friend that wasn't shooting me got smoked right outside the saferoom, he died, (I had 1 health by this point) I took his first aid, the friendly fire friend died, I ran through the level, solo'd the Tank, the crescendo and got to the saferoom.
Of course, they took my first aid when the next level loaded though

Interesting way of playing there. Although it seems like it would be tough or annoyingly limiting to play like that all the time. Plus I'd hate to join a game randomly and break one of these many rules.
I do play with the lowest brightness and with music/captions turned off, but that really just adds to the atmosphere and doesn't modify the difficulty.
