The Best Player Should Take the Rear

The way I felt in every game the best player should be the one staying at the back because people are less inclined to save anyone that is left behind. But whoever is the best player at the rear should still be able to rank up the score and be good at covering every blind spot around him especially with those nasty Smokers hanging around. The worst player should be at least second in line so the third and fourth could help him if he gets into trouble, the one leading should be capable of watching his step and have pretty good foresight and the ability to hear especially for Witches and Tanks which will let him warn the others before rushing in.

It all depends on the game, I don't like having a fixed formation anyway, you need to be fluid in L4D2. Anyway, sometimes a team is plodding around really slowly getting battered, so the best player needs to advance quickly and encourage the others. At other times they'll be moving quick already, so the best player should take the rear to cover them all. You just need to change to best fit the situation.

I'm going to disagree. Here's why:

The first player is always going to be the one who is potentiallly in the midst of an oncoming attack (Charger, Hunted, Pounced, Jockeyed) because the idea of ambushing the survivors is by staying ahead of them. The SI will therefore usually be in front of the survivors as much as possible, with the exception of the Boomer or Spitter if the 3rd and/or 4th players are straggling. Most players do not lack the common sense of straggling behind for minutes at a time.

I suppose the best player could be in back to deal with the Smoker, but if your skill is accurate enough to eliminate danger before it has even had a chance to strike (deadstopping a Hunter, shooting a Jockey from afar, one-shot kill an oncoming Charger) - why wouldn't you be in front?

Let's say the Smoker stays in back and targets the best player on the team. Then the Hunter and Jockey/Charger team up to deal with the other teammates. Assuming the other teammates can react fast enough to prevent a triple-incap instantly, the Smoker still needs double the time of pretty much every other SI to incap its target, because the Smoker by itself just doesn't do a ton of damage.

    (Exception: Smoker/Spitter, Smoker/Boomer)

TLR: IMO, the best player should be in front. 2nd best should be in the rear, and the others should remain in the middle.

Unfortunately I've only been able to play pub matches. I have never played a game where someone is a leader and appoints roles. Pub matches seldom have any communication at all. It's sad really thats why I want a team.

I don't play with a team that organizes themselves like that. When I play with friends they talk and say, "the attacks coming in", or, "let's move back/forward".

When playing any game I have to orient myself so I never, or very rarely, get capped. Because I never rely on teammates due to them being unable to save anyone most of the time.

I'm not as efficient with this when playing with friends. I guess because I know I can rely on them, but it's a very bad habit of mine.

Trouble is that if you are with some pretty bad players, the guy at the back could get pounced/smokered and the rest of the team don't notice and carry on anyway.

PS childish thought it is, the title actually made me laugh

It doesn't matter.. Back, front, middle or sides.

If the team you are playing on is sooo bad. Taking the back means you're screwed. You're better off in the middle with some meat shields aka bad players.

And if the other team has any brains they will single out the player in the back carrying everyone.

The smarter player should fill in the blanks and know his role. I sure as hell won't take the back if i know im gonna get incapped or killed of any attack that lands on me because my team has the reflexs of a sloth. But i will stay a few steps ahead of one player and a few steps behind another.

So really it doesn't matter. But if you are the one carrying players you need meat shields. If you don't, then the players are NOT bad players and you can just flow with it.

Nothing worse then being either the guy in front or back. And having to save the guy on the opposite side because of the wortless fools in the middle doing jack shit nothing. Especially on realism. Turn your head around you dumb ass's..lol.

I used to lead... Head first into the maw. Poke my nose into the choke points knowing that I was about to get pounced, smoked, boomed, etc... Then I'd quickly back up and someone else would take the hit. If you are good at clearing that's a good strategy, btw.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.
