Re: Okay, it's upgrade time.
Well, I'm gonna ponder this over the weekend and troll Newegg and Tiger Direct (although so far, Newegg is definitely cheaper even with shipping. Tiger's just useful cause it's a few miles from my office). We'll see, I still have to get Mrs. Deus to approve the idea, which she'll probably be okay with it if I compensate by selling the old parts to eat part of the cost, then use the rest of the cash towards the credit card bills.
Thanks again, folks. (Keep bringing suggestions if you think of any.)

Re: Okay, it's upgrade time.
hmmmmmmmmm.
So, I saw that Bigdog recommended/used the Asus P5K3 Deluxe in somebody's board once. That's a $219.99 board, though, although the thought of DDR3 is enticing.
However, browsing the website, I noticed they had an open box version. And, it's only $119.99 right now. $100 cheaper, for the same exact mobo that was just returned to Newegg and tested by Asus. Of course, the risk is obvious: it could be defective, and it could have all OR none of its in-box extras. It's still returnable if it doesn't work, and I'd know right away so I could get it back within 15 days.
That's a tough call, and I'm waiting on a reply from Newegg to determine if the refurbished board has the same warranty. Provided it does, who thinks this is a good idea? I've used plenty of refurbished parts in the past without problem, and a few with problems, but considering this is Asus, I'm inclined to trust their quality a bit more.
Good news is, I think I got clearance from Mrs. Deus to do this, so I'll probably be ordering today or tomorrow. Still juggling between going ahead and spending the cash on a quad-core or just buying the E8200 or E8400 for now. I might go ahead and take the plunge though. Decisions, decisions.
