WD's new Velociraptor... OMG Why can't mid May be now?!

Hrm... I will look into these then... See what size and speed I get for the $600 I am willing to spend on HDD

I'm just thinking $600 will give me really really fast speeds (faster then I've ever had since I've had all large drives for my primary system) and still 600gb will hold ALL of my runtime applications.

I'm worried that with a SSD I'm going to have to keep moving my active games into and out of storage. Which I suppose isn't such a bad thing I don't play a large variety at the same time as long as I remembered which directory to put them in.

I heard somewhere that Vista cannot handle SSD's in RAID......but they work fine XP. Can anyone confirm or deny this, and if true.....wtf?

Do this and split the difference.
1. 16g SSD to run your OS and maybe 1 game you play all the fucking time
1. 150g Velociraptor for the rest of the stuff you want to be fast

Less than 600 dollars and you get pretty damn fast and still have enough space to actually do something with.

16GB is actually about a full install of Vista, it could run out of room after a year of patches I suspect.

The Velociraptors are thankfully 300GB each, versus the 150GB RaptorX's

I'll have time to think about this as the Velociraptors don't release till "mid may" they are only available in alienware systems till then

If you clean up the uninstallers (Using CCleaner or whatever) you can save space... I never keep my uninstallers for Windows patches around for more than a month. I make an effort to run CCleaner on the 1st of every month so that it gets rid of the previous month's uninstallers. The only drawback is that you can't uninstall the patch. Not a huge deal.
