Yep, I would kill to get a 64GB or 128GB SSD for my laptop, but they're prohibitively expensive still. I can be patient, it'll be worth the wait when those prices come down something more reasonable. (32GB is a bit too small for my needs, a lot of my development tools and shit take up a ton of space.)

I hear ya there. one of the reasons I am leaning towards the Velociraptor. At least then its $1 per gig.

    and a 10,000RPMG 300gb HD is cheap?

Even a 150gb is $170+. You don't need all your files on a 10,000RPM drive, so dropping $300+ if not $400 on such a big drive is a waste of money, especially in terms of $$$/performance.

I was specifically speaking about my laptop, which has room for only one drive. Your point is definitely not argued in a PC. My wife's boot drive is a Raptor, but all of her data is on the second hard drive, which is far bigger.

No, of course it isn't cheap. You right is isn't just about money. I'm obviously encouraging myself to spend beyond my means because I love my computer hobby and I like having fun neat stuff. Believe me, I'm extremely tempted by the SSDs but they just don't seem to offer enough space per dollar. If I spend $600, I'm going to get a 32GB SSD, or I could have 2 Raided 300GB drives. I know the performance on that SSD is going to be insanely awesome (and I already have the 1.3TB of slow storage now so thats not an issue)...

The performance of the reviews on the velociraptors are impressive. Its quieter, cooler, consumes less power and runs 35% faster then the Raptor. The SSD is going to beat all of that (its hella quieter, hella cooler, consumes even less power, and will run much faster). I just don't know if $18.75/GB is worth it.

Something to think about, for sure. I really appreciate the sounding board you guys offer.

Ah frell. Now you guys have me considering this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227295

I just don't think 32Gb is going to cut it for me. Its only $400 more then I wanted to spend right?

Yea. Once I add up the costs of the whole system, I'll snap back to reality.
