Re: Vista or XP?
I have to say, I've been pleasantly surprised so far. I finally got sick of having to reinstall Win 32 every 6 months to keep it happy, and pickup up Vista Ultimate 64. The install went very smoothly, with little trouble finding drivers. My Epson 1660 scanner, which is a little long in the tooth but still running strong, doesn't yet have a V-64 driver.
I'm a little suspicious there is still something wrong with the Creative Audigy driver, since the only problems I'm having are crashes out of any Battlefield game when I click on "Audio" in the options menu, and when I try to join a server. I'm trying to see if there's another cause of the latter failure- I really don't feel like tossing out a perfectly good Audigy ZS Platinum Pro.
Otherwise, the system is running like a champ. Noticeable improvement in multi-tasking speed with 64 bit running on this dual core AMD 5600+ CPU.

Re: Vista or XP?
The little intermediate machine I picked up has Vista home premium on it. All the downloads and updates I can find for it are installed, on board sound, the headphone/mic jacks still wont accept anything and work with BF2. Waiting for the tower a week and half late thank you TigerDirect.. so I can put the new system together XP Pro 64bit will be my OS. Girlslikeguns2 has Vista home and the same headphone issues, luckily for her we got an external mic to work and she just uses the speakers. No such luck here.

reviving an old post but this comic just fit the discussion too well, and really didn't think it was rgiht to start a new post so the difference between XP and Vista
and for the record i only use Vista on my laptop because it came with it and can use DX10, otherwise i wouldn't care at all about Vista.
