06-03-08, 03:59 PM #1Which one?
I'm looking into getting a new Graphics card sometime next week (I'm doing some work this weekend, and starting a new job in a few more weeks)
Basically, my 7600GS 512mb has been working fine, but a few months ago I decided "I'm spending my tax return on Mass Effect" I got the game today only to find that the sustem requirments say
Nvidia 6800 series or above (7600GS is not supported) laaaaaaaaaaaaame. when I play I just get a square that says "Video sumthin not supported". Finally, I need a new card, instead of wanting one.
So which one should I get? I have:
Vista Home Basic 32
Intel E6850 @3.0 GHZ
and 3 gigs of RAM
I'm looking to spend 200-300, but I want to get the most bang for my buck.

Re: Which one?
No questions asked..i dont care what anyone else here tells you...i have one of these and i get 60fps on crysis running 1440x900 on High/med settings, i get somewhere between (and this is with Nvidia AND ingame settigns maxed out as high as EVERYTHIGN goes) 150-400fps in CS:S..drops down to 60 fps when it is as intense as it get with 20 people on screen. 100-250 on TF2...70-180fps on COD4....but yeah i dont have AntiAliasing turned on in that game. for 299...you cant get anything better than:
An eVga 9800 gtx 512mb gpu
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130339
Advantages:
1. Listed in the market as the fastest and best performing single GPU card.
2. eVga's Step-up program. (example: my recent step up. I went from my 8800gts 512 to the new hotness 9800gtx for $7. SEE HERE: http://www.texasteamplayers.com/index.php?topic=35025.0)
3. Yeah, just read the revies on newegg.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ROOM IN YOUR CASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its fuckin lonnnnng. I have a mid tower case, me n chronic cough had to pull the hard drive bay out, cut with metal snips and bang with a hammer so it would fit:
You can see where i had to.

...but its a hard drive bay.. who cares......the performance the card gives you is worth it.
This thread should have no reason to continue any further.

Re: Which one?
I am eyeing a 9800gtx right now... BUT if youd like to spend less than that look up a 8800 gt 512mb which should run you 175, less if you look for rebates. Saw a mailing/newegg instant rebate combo on one 8800gt bringing the price down to 125 a couple weeks back.

Re: Which one?
Almost the exact same comp. specs and looking for the same thing --- only thing I am wondering though is I heard nvidia's coming out with their next line of cards fairly soon with some physics generator that the current cards do not have. Any truth to this/timeframe for next cards? (at the very least when the next cards come out 9800's price might drop)
